Volcano Vista started this tournament coming in as the #1 seed in a 16 team Metro Tournament. They came into this tournament undefeated at 9-0 and the early favorites to win this tournament. This team was led by Coach Greg Brown.
In the first round of this Metro Tournament they got matched up with #16 Rio Grande. They had faced Rio Grande earlier in the season during the teams season opener when they defeated the Ravens 74-30 November 30th. In this first round match-up they defeated Rio Grande 95-21. The player of the game in their victory was Anthony Gonzales who had 13 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists. In the Metro Quarterfinals vs #8 Rio Rancho, the Volcano Vista Hawks trailed 20-11 in the first quarter and 33-32 at halftime. They made big adjustments in the 2nd half and outscored the Rams by 13 in the third quarter. Freshman Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State #257 Nation NM was the player of the game in the quarterfinals, he scored 12 points and had 8 rebounds. In the Metro Semifinals their next opponent was #4 Cleveland who they have previously played earlier this season. In the first meeting that took place on December 11th, Volcano Vista defeated the Storm 81-70. In this semifinals match-up Volcano Vista defeated the Storm again in a blowout victory 76-56. Jakwon Hill Jakwon Hill 6'1" | CG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM led the way with 29 points, shot 4/6 from the three point line and was 7/7 from the free throw line.
In the Metro Championship, The Volcano Vista Hawks were set to face-off against the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars who were the #3 seed in the Metro Tournament. They led from the start of the game and defeated the Jaguars in a blowout win 78-49. They were led by Jakwon Hill Jakwon Hill 6'1" | CG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM who scored 27 points and made 5 threes in the game. Kaden Valdez Kaden Valdez 5'11" | PG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM also scored 14 points with 4 three pointers made in the game. Freshman Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State #257 Nation NM came in off the bench and provided 14 points from the second unit. Big man Sean Alter Sean Alter 6'9" | PF Volcano Vista | 2023 State NM also scored 10 points and was a key presence on both sides of the floor. Point Guard Oscar McCoy Oscar McCoy 5'8" | PG State NM controlled the pace and did a great job running the offense. Hudson Brown Hudson Brown 5'9" | PG Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM and Tyler Martinez came in the game from the second unit and provided some offense for Volcano Vista.
