Continue ReadingThursday nights are always a little quieter on the Indiana High School Basketball scene. However, that doesn’t mean our Prep Hoops Indiana staff isn’t out finding games to watch. Last evening, I had the opportunity to cover the annual NorthWood vs. Westview contest. This was a solid matchup of northern Indiana teams with solid collections of talent. The Panthers of NorthWood are currently ranked #6 in our Prep Hoops Indiana Class 3A polls. Westview entered the game 2-0 and just outside of the 2A Top 10.
The game shot off like a rocket from the opening tip. Both teams scored on the first four possessions of the game with Chaz Yoder hitting three 3’s in the early minutes for NorthWood. The Warriors were able to match them for most of the quarter despite trading 2’s for 3’s and trailed 21-16 after one. In the second period, the offenses stayed hot as Cade Brenner Cade Brenner 6'3" | SG NorthWood | 2023 State IN and NiTareon Tuggle each got going for the Panthers to take a 39-31 lead into the halftime break.
A 12-1 run to begin the third by NorthWood would pretty quickly put things out of reach. Brenner was hot to start the half and Chaz Yoder connected on another triple to allow the Panthers to jump out to a 20-point advantage midway through the third. At that point, it was on cruise control.
Class 3A #6 NorthWood would go on to win 73-58 led by 17 points by Cade Brenner Cade Brenner 6'3" | SG NorthWood | 2023 State IN . Chaz Yoder finished with 15 points all coming from beyond the arc. For Westview, it was Mason Yoder Mason Yoder 6'2" | SG Westview | 2022 State IN leading the way with a game-high 21 points.
