The Tarkanian Classic gets underway this week. One of the most prestigious holiday tournaments, the event hosted by recruiting legend Dinos Trigonis features teams from around the globe. The prep school Division gets under Way on Wednesday and runs until Friday. On Friday, the high school division kicks off, with teams vying for championships in 9 different brackets. With so many different teams, players, and locations to remember the event can be overwhelming. Luckily I’m here to help. In this article, let’s take a look at some players you need to keep your eyes on at the event.

Kendall Campbell 6’8 PF Pebblebrook 2022 (#7PHG 2022) - Excited to see the #7 player in our Georgia state rankings. The explosive senior forward comes to town with a 6-1 Pebblebrook squad. A high-value recruit, Campbell has a ton of mid-major offers sprinkled in with the likes of Georgia and Georgia Tech from the SEC and ACC.

[player_tooltip player_id="1041560" first="Darrion" last="Williams"] 6’6 PF Bishop Gorman 2022 (#3PHN 2022) - Should be a terrific platform for Williams this week. One of my top Swiss Army Knife guys, Williams plays better in big games, and Gorman will be in nothing but big games this week. Keep an eye on him to see how many different areas of the game he has an impact in.

[player_tooltip player_id="1220975" first="Tavionte" last="Jackson"] 6’2 PG Las Vegas 2022 (#5PHN 2022) -(featured image) Jackson has had a dominant start to his high school season, now his attention is turned to the Tark and the Spalding Division. The uber-talented PG has the ability to carry his team with his scoring and rebounding. Looking to see if anyone can slow him down in this tournament, as Jackson is coming in averaging nearly 30 per game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1337838" first="Truman" last="Burningham"] 6’0 PG Timpview 2022 - The PG with the unorthodox jumper will lead Timpview into Nike Gold Bracket action. Saw Burningham in the fall and was impressed with his 1 v 1 ability. Looking to see how effective he can be this week, which starts with a nice test against San Joaquin Memorial.

Elijah Knudsen 5’11 CG Mead 2022 (#8PHC 2022) - It will be fun getting another look at a top 10 player in our Colorado class of 2022. Knudsen is a sniper with a crafty handle, slick enough to get him space to get his shot off. He takes on Las Vegas High and [player_tooltip player_id="1220975" first="Tavionte" last="Jackson"], in what should be a phenomenal opening-round matchup.

Max Von Arx 6’5 PF Grant 2022 (#17PHO 2022) - MVA comes in with a reputation as a big-time shot blocker. Rim protection is a valuable skill in a tournament setting so looking to see how much his shot-blocking impacts games this weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id="967725" first="Jaxon" last="Heiden"] 6’9 C Alta 2022 (#12PHU 2022) - Only a matter of time before someone spots and falls in love with Heiden’s game. The post man is a skilled rim protector. Heiden is perfectly capable of blocking and altering shots and can step out and face up to about 18 on the offensive end.

[player_tooltip player_id="1286525" first="Kenyon" last="Giles"] 5’10 PG Silverado 2022 (#6PHN 2022) - Welcome to the Tark Classic Mr. Giles. Although he has already signed, this is a perfect showcase for the dynamic PG. With his offensive package, Giles is more than capable of carrying his team to a win. First up a matchup over a good 6-2 Paramount team.

[player_tooltip player_id="969630" first="Bron" last="Roberts"] 6’11 SF Timpanogos 2023 (#2PHU 2023) - I can’t wait to see the #2 player in our Utah c/o 2023. At 6’10 Roberts is listed as a wing in most places. If he shows that he has true wing skills to go with that size, then let the fun begin.

[player_tooltip player_id="1172926" first="Marcus" last="Wilson"] 6’3 SG ABC Prep 2024 (#1PHNM 2024) - Wilson will get his first taste of Tark action running with ABC Prep out of New Mexico. The wing is a good two-way player that can turn offense into defense with his ability to play the passing lanes. He will be tested with games in the highly competitive Prep Division.

[player_tooltip player_id="1285504" first="Davion" last="Guity"] 6’8 SF ABC Prep 2023 (#3PHNM 2023) - This will be my first look at Guity in action, as he was injured when I caught up with ABC Prep in Utah. Guity is known as a big-time glass cleaner. I’m interested in seeing if he shows that skill set against several long and talented prep programs.
