Hoophall West: Top CG/SF Performers

Wednesday December 8th-Saturday December 11th I attended the Hoophall West at Chaparral HS in Scottsdale, AZ. 

There were three to four games a day with many Arizona teams playing in the prestigious West Coast event.

We look at some of the top performers. 

Here were the top CG/SF Performers:

2022

Mekhi Mason Mekhi Mason 6'4" | CG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State AZ AZ Compass Prep

A high IQ smart decision maker rarely turns it over. He defends multiple positions and can make plays for others. He is a consistent catch mid to 3pt shooter and the Rice commit is a winner.

Lamar Washington Lamar Washington 6'4" | CG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #128 Nation AZ AZ Compass Prep 

A thicker downhill guard is tough and is a good passer. He loves the contact in the lane and carves out his own space and uses his tighter handle to score in the lane. He is a physical defender and the Texas Tech commit is another critical piece to the Dragons success.   

Joshua Ola-Joseph Joshua Ola-Joseph 6'7" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State #166 Nation AZ AZ Compass Prep

A catch-3pt shooter with a thicker body. He has unusually long arms and strength to rebound the ball at a good clip and go up and flush it down. The Minnesota commit has been a nice pick up for the local Grind Session team. 

Easton Reagan Easton Reagan 6'4" | CG Desert Mountain | 2022 State AZ Desert Mountain

A crafty scoring guard scores it many ways. He gets downhill, back door layups and shoots it with range. He has become more athletic in the last year to flush it down and he can pull-up off dribble from mid to the 3pt line. He scored 23 points versus Chaparral. 

2023

Marquis Cook Marquis Cook 6'6" | SF AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #6 Nation AZ AZ Compass Prep 

One of the most impressive performances of the week. He seemed to be everywhere on defense. He rebounds well and is a plus shot blocker. He is a better passes then gets credited for and he can hit the catch-3 and the floater. His body control in the air is next level stuff. 

Cody Williams Cody Williams 6'8" | SF Perry | 2023 State #25 Nation AZ Perry 

A long wing had a good showing this week. He can hit the catch-3, he takes his long strides to the basket to score and is a very good defender. His best defense is in space and can inside as well. He rebounds well despite his leaner body. He has the runner and is very willing to throw the extra pass. He had 25 points versus Coronado/NV.  

Ben Egbo Ben Egbo 6'4" | SF Perry | 2023 State AZ Perry (Pictured)  

An athletic high motored wing forward can hit the catch-3. He rebounds out of area and he moves his feet well in space to defend. He can dribble drive and gets to the basket and will flush it down or finish off a tough layup. He is a sneaky good passer and plays with great energy in each game. A 3 and D type long term. 

Connor Fitzgerald Connor Fitzgerald 6'3" | CG Brophy Prep | 2023 State AZ Brophy Prep

A crafty scorer who can pull-up from mid to the 3pt line. He is a good catch corner-3 shooter and plays with a high confidence. He seems to be a step quicker and his skill and IQ jump off the page.  

2024

Braeden Speed Braeden Speed 6'3" | CG Brophy Prep | 2024 State AZ Brophy Prep 

An athletic guard who plays and defends multiple positions. He is an outstanding on-ball defender and seems to slow down his opponents every game. He is a smart scorer inside and understands how to hesitate and get by his defenders. He has the floater game and uses euro steps.   

2025

Koa Peat Koa Peat 6'8" | SF Perry | 2025 State AZ Perry 

A versatile forward is super talented. He can post up and go to work. He flushes it down easily with his stronger frame and can rip though and get to the basket in a hurry. He takes contact well and can shoot it from the perimeter.
