Continue ReadingI headed over to Fort Lauderdale High School to watch the Flying L’s take on the Flanagan Falcons. It was the first home game for new Fort Lauderdale head coach Stefan Whittingham. The visiting Falcons spoiled the party with a 73-65 win. Flanagan has a solid core of players as you will see by reading below.
Let’s look at some standouts…
Kemani Wilson Kemani Wilson 6'7" | PF Flanagan | 2022 State FL – Flanagan
I thought 2022 Kemani Wilson Kemani Wilson 6'7" | PF Flanagan | 2022 State FL was the best player on the floor on this night. The 6-foot-6 wing scored a game-high 23 points and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. Wilson made an array of tough shots and used his body to power his way to the rim. Specifically, his step-back was on point. I would qualify him as a three-dimensional scorer. Wilson is also extremely athletic in transition. In addition, I think has the body to score with his back to the basket in certain situations. I thought he should have gotten the ball during a few plays around the block. Per information, Wilson is averaging 15.8 points and ten rebounds per game.
Myles Hurt – Flanagan
I thought 2022 Myles Hurt played excellent defense against the Flying L’s. The 5-foot-9 guard poked away a few steals on Jordan Glass and turned those turnovers into opportunities on the other end. Specifically, I thought he played fast side-to-side and had quick hands. Hurt finished with 16 points and used his quickness to get to the rim. Per information, he is averaging 7.3 points per game.
Jeremy Elyzee Jeremy Elyzee 6'6" | SF Flanagan | 2024 State FL – Flanagan
2024 Jeremy Elyzee Jeremy Elyzee 6'6" | SF Flanagan | 2024 State FL had a solid game with 19 points. The 6-foot-7 forward used his long arms to score around the rim and rebound off putbacks. Elyzee has a nice base of athleticism to attack the basket and execute in motion. Per information, he is averaging 12.8 points and 13 rebounds per game.
Jordan Glass – Fort Lauderdale
2022 Jordan Glass scored 15 points on five 3-pointers. The 6-foot guard is simply dangerous when left open. Glass can shoot off the dribble and has a good handle. He should continue to develop as a passer and an overall guard in this offense. Per information, Glass is averaging 12 points, 4.5 rebounds, four assists and five steals per game.
Ramez Zayed Ramez Zayed 6'1" | PG Ft. Lauderdale | 2024 State FL – Fort Lauderdale
2024 Ramez Zayed Ramez Zayed 6'1" | PG Ft. Lauderdale | 2024 State FL is a player with some size at guard. The 6-foot-1 prospect scored 18 points and dished out six assists. I thought Zayed used his body well to score around the rim and on layups. Specifically, I thought he did a good job shielding his body while extending the basketball out on baskets. Zayed was routinely around the rim making plays on the night. Per information, he is averaging 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
Tahir Bond Tahir Bond 6'3" | CG Coral Glades | 2024 State FL / Dylan Burrowes Dylan Burrowes 6'8" | SF Ft. Lauderdale | 2024 State FL – Fort Lauderdale
The Flying L’s have two good 2024’s in Bond and Burrowes. The pair combined for 25 points and 14 rebounds. The 6-foot-3 Bond can really move in the open court and contort his way through traffic on his way to the rim. Burrowes is a 6-foot-7 forward with some offensive talent as he grows into his body. I thought Burrowes settled in and became more involved as the game rolled along.
