Five of the 8 teams are ranked in the top 10 preseason polls in NorCal. Campolindo, Salesian, Dublin, Sheldon, De La Salle. To round out the field of 8, there’s Archbishop Riordan, Sacramento High, and the host Gridley. Prep Hoops is there Friday and Saturday. Day 1 was Thursday. Here’s our 2022 standouts for Friday.
Austin Johnson Austin Johnson 6'3" | SG Salesian | 2022 State CA-N 6’4 Guard of Salesian Prep
The Senior guard came out aggressive looking to establish himself early. He nailed a transition 3ptr, then came back and dropped a 3 on the catch and shoot from the wings. He brought the ball up court, delivering good passes to teammates, and showed he could get into the paint for pull-ups and floaters. 11pts, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 4 stls.
Carmelo Clark-Tarver Carmelo Clark-Tarver 6'3" | SG Dublin | 2022 State CA-N 6’3 Guard of Dublin
Tarver seems to be finding his groove with this team . He played a good all around game in spite of fouling out late. He’s finding his rhythm on his jump shot dropping four 3-Ptrs throughout the contest. He was good on the catch and shoot. 16pts, 3rebs, 1ast, 1stl.
Donovan Morgan 6’4 Forward of Sheldon HS
Morgan was the top point producer in this game in which he showed consistency on the mid-range jumper and his strength in the paint powering up for strong finishes and put backs. 15 pts, 4 offensive rebounds 2 stls, with limited playing time.
Antonio Pusateri Antonio Pusateri 6'7" | SF Archbishop Riordan | 2022 State CA-N 6’5 Forward of Archbishop Riordan HS
Pusateri is a long wiry player who brings good energy, and bounce to his game. He’s good in transition, where he shows his long strides with good speed getting up the court sometimes leading the break. He’s long with good hops trying to finish with dunks. He had 3 offensive rebounds, 11pts.
Brendan Passanisi 6’7 Center of Archbishop Riordan HS
He’s a big body player who can have an huge impact when he gets thing going his way. He can be physical and have presence in the paint on defense. He’s hard to stop when he’s balanced and going up. He surprised a few by showing he could knock down 3-Ptrs at the top 2/2. 8pts, 8rebs.
Johnny Semany 6’2 Point Guard of De La Salle HS.
Semany the high IQ guard who’s been a consistent player in this early season. He has helped make the Spartans one of the surprise teams in the early going. He showed us he could knock down open 3-ptrs in the crunch, hit crucial free throws under pressure. He hit a shot from the other teams free throw line at the buzzer. 16pts, 3asts, 1block, and a charge in his favor.
Justin Yasukochi Justin Yasukochi 6'2" | SG Campolindo | 2022 State CA-N 6’3 Guard of Campolindo HS.
He scored key buckets when the team needed one. He’s undersized but battled in the paint on defense before fouling out with 10 points. Yasukochi is a guard who can shoot with range, but plays closer to the basket to help his team. He’ll knock down shots from the free throw area consistently.
