Continue ReadingThroughout the season we will take a look at the KBCA Rankings as voted on by the coaches around Kansas and take a look at the key players in the top 10 and how they will or have impacted their teams during the 2021-2022 Campaign. Today’s venture will be on the 4A rankings from December 21st.
# 1 Bishop Miege
MVP: Christian Bowen-Webb Christian Bowen-Webb 6'2" | CG Bishop Miege | 2022 State KS , 6’3 SG, 2022 and Kellan Boylan, 6’7 F, 2022: Bowen-Webb is a very gifted scorer of the basketball and has continued to develop his overall ability with the basketball to go with his top level shooting ability. He has had a great start to the season moving without the ball and catching it ready to attack and score. Boylan has been a near double double machine game in and game out to start the year and is an athletic forward presence to pair with Miege’s great guards.
X-Factor: Xavier Hall Xavier Hall 5'11" | CG Bishop Miege | 2022 State KS , 5’11 PG, 2022: The catalyst that helps run the show for Miege, Hall has always been a tremendous floor general both in the grassroots scene and in high school. Has great command of the game, get’s his guys great shots, and can get himself going especially when attacking downhill.
Name to Watch: Aidan Wing, 6’4 G, 2023: Showed a lot of promise last season and is coming on strong this year has a versatile option on the perimeter. A solid all around player from shooting the basketball efficiently, making nice passes, and can defend.
#2 Eudora
MVP: Jaden Hamm Jaden Hamm 6'6" | C Eudora | 2023 KS , 6’6 F, 2023: Is a physically dominant presence in and around the painted area and can move on the floor like a guard as well. Is poised to average a double double on the season and is highlighted with a 14 point 14 rebound performance. Hamm can control the game with his athletic ability on both ends of the floor.
X-Factor: Traeger Rader, 6’6 W, 2022: A really long wing player who is extremely active on defense and thrives off running the floor and getting out in transition. Finishes really well and his length on the perimeter makes him a matchup problem. Can also shoot the 3 ball.
Name to Watch: Logan Sullivan, G, 2024: The young guard is a sniper from the perimeter and is a great compliment to stretch the floor with Eudora’s tremendous size and athleticism elsewhere. Has a couple games on the season already with a barrage of the 3 balls made.
#3 Buhler
MVP: Jack Voth Jack Voth 6'6" | PF J.T. Hoggard | 2023 State NC , 6’5 F/W, 2023: Averaging 24.3 points, 9 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game, Voth has been on an absolute mission this year to establish himself as a top tier 2023 prospect in Kansas. Has been super efficient from the field as well, and has complimented his floor stretching ability with very physical play around the basket. Plays the game with a ton of emotion and energy as well.
X-Factor: Isaiah Hernandez Isaiah Hernandez 5'10" | CG Buhler | 2022 State KS , 5’11 PG, 2022: The senior point guard has continued his dominant on ball defensive ability and instint on the floor. Great floor general and gets his guys in the right spots. The competitor at the point guard a good team needs, he is averaging 5.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 4 rebounds per game.
Name to Watch: Grant Ricker, 6’1 G, 2023: Ricker has come on in his junior year and is providing a nice scoring punch from the guard spot to compliment Voth and Hernandez’s play making ability with the ball. Also is a tough minded defensive guard and mixes it up. Averaging 11.5 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per game. A solid guard to keep an eye on.
#4 Concordia
MVP: Joey Handerson, 5’8 PG, 2024: the young sophomore guard has been putting it all together for Concordia to get this year started. Has had a 4 three point game against Beloit, has had multiple games with 2 or more steals, and has played some solid guard minutes. His emergence has really gotten Concordia off to a hot start.
X-Factor: Payton Breese, 5’11 G, 2024: Another sophomore making an immediate impact this season for Concorida. His has nice length for his frame and has been terrific on catch and shoot opportunities. His growth along with Handerson will make for a lethal guard combination for this year and future seasons.
Name to Watch: Aceyn Cash, 6’4 W, 2023: Is a really long wing who is “Cash” from the 3 point line and really steps into his shots with confidence. Is long and active on the perimeter as a defender and can rebound the ball really well.
#5 Tonganoxie
MVP: Zane Novotney, G, 2022: Is a lethal 3 point shooter and instant offense for Tongie. Great leader on the court as well and comes up with big shots in important moments in ball games. His early season play is highlighted with a 27 point game against Metro that saw him hit 6 3’s in the game.
X-Factor: Andrew Wilson, PG, 2022: The Tongie point guard has developed each season he has been in high school, and in his senior campaign he is off to a hot start from the point guard position. Helping run the show with Novotney will take them a long way this year. Wilson is a reliable shooter from the perimeter as well.
Name to Watch: Caleb Clark, F, 2023: A really solid role player for them and some inside presence they need to pair with the talented guards. Clark will be tasked this season with a much larger role this year.
#6 Paola
MVP: Trey Moala Trey Moala 6'7" | PF Paola | 2022 State KS , 6’6 G, 2022: Quite possibly your player of the year in 4A, Moala has been on an absolute tear to start the season. Handling point guard duties against teams playing with high pressure, has been used to cut through zones, and can guard the 1-5 positions. Moala’s high flying ability mixed with his handle, shooting, and passing make him an all around elite basketball player.
X-Factor: Ayden Morris, G, 2022 and 6’3 F Caden Rhamy, 2022: A steady guard who has made a bunch of complimentary plays during their wins this season. A very active defender, plays on the help side well, kicks the ball ahead in transition, and can knock down an open jump shot. Him playing at a high level would give them a nice piece. Rhamy is a physical defensive presence who rebounds it and protects the paint.
Name to Watch: Caden Marcum, 6’5 W, 2022: A long athlete who can shoot the ball at a high level. He’s headed to Tennessee for baseball, but he is leaving his mark on the basketball scene this year. He is hard to get a contest on and when running in transition he can score it effectively. Him and Moala make a great tandem.
#7 Abilene
MVP: Kaleb Becker Kaleb Becker 6'4" | SF Abilene | 2022 State KS , 6’4 F, 2022: A big bodied forward who can play inside/out. Is a near double double each game he plays in and scores it at a very efficient level shooting a high percentage from the paint and mid range area. Also an underrated passer and can kick out to shooters against double teams.
X-Factor (s): Cooper Wildey 6’2 2022 G and Jalyn West 5’10 2022 PG: Two guards that pair nicely with Becker out on the perimeter. Wildey has nice length and can stretch the floor by hitting outside shots off the catch and is active on defense. West is a solid point guard who has logged a lot of experience over his time. Makes solid plays and is crafty with the ball.
Name to Watch: Brax Fisher Brax Fisher 6'1" | PG Abilene | 2024 State KS , 5’10, 2024: Is a nice spark plug for the Cowboys and can bring some instant offense and play making ability to the game. Fisher has a ton of potential and plays fearless with the ball in his hands.
#8 McPherson
MVP: Seth Madron Seth Madron 6'2" | SG Mcpherson | 2022 State KS , 6’3 G, 2022: Is an elite athletic guard who gets downhill and to the basket at will. He can handle the ball effectively and play off the ball as well. Can make electric play after electric play in games and pours in points at a high level. Also a great wing defender and rebounder. Is a 20 ppg kid and gets it done in a variety of ways.
X-Factor: Owen Pyle, 6’ G, 2024: The sophomore guard is the Bullpups best shooter and is a great compliment to Madron and his ability to attack the rim. Is developing his overall game, but his high level shooting in his young career could really propel them.
Name to Watch: Kyden Thompson, 6’ G, 2024: Another talented young guard on this roster who really flashed during the grassroots season as a shifty and athletic playmaker with the ball in his hands. With the right opportunity an with an increased role, could really make a splash the second half of this season.
#9 Chanute
MVP: Kam Koester Kam Koester 6'2" | SF Chanute | 2022 State KS , 6’3 W/F, 2022: Having a great season so far and picking up some of the scoring slack left over from Carter Coombs Carter Coombs 5'11" | CG Great Bend | 2024 State KS departure. Koester is a nice athlete and really long and can slash to the basket and make plays at the rim.
X-Factor: Kaiden Seamster, 6’3 W/F, 2024: An active and energetic defender with a ton of potential for Chanute. Get’s a ton of deflections and steals that lead to break away plays and transition opportunities. Seamster can score in bunches especially when in attacking.
Name to Watch: Eric Erbe, 6’2 G, 2023: An intriguing junior guard who is a really good defender and embodies how hard the entire Chanute team plays. A solid all around guard who can take a big leap this year.
#10 Augusta
MVP: Kaden McDaniel Kaden McDaniel 6'4" | PF Augusta | 2023 State KS , 6’5 F, 2023: Very effective and polished scorer who has backed up his projection from last year for a big time season this year. Continues to become more versatile on the floor both offensively and defensively and has become a clutch option late in big games for Augusta. A big time rebounder as well.
X-Factor: Morgan Livingston, 6’ G, 2022: A star baseball player heading to Ottawa, Livingston is having a great senior season so far. Had a double digit scoring effort in a big win for Augusta heading into break, handles the ball well, gets guys into spots, and plays off McDaniel really well. Really solid defender.
Name to Watch: Gavin Kiser, 6’4 F, 2024: A physical presence that brings some inside scoring and a great compliment to McDaniel from the forward spot. Kiser provides another high quality scoring presence and versatile defender.
