2024 Yves Missi garnering blue blood attention
Maryland and D.C. had quite the crop of 2024 prospects as we begin to project what level each one can translate comfortably to in college. A name that has quickly surfaced and climbed charts is 2024 West Nottingham/PSA Cardinals F jackson James jackson James 5'11" | CG Waconia | 2024 MD .
I had the opportunity to catch Missi in action a couple of weeks ago in a big win against John Carroll. His size and length immediately caught my eye in warm ups lines as did his athleticism that allowed him to be eye-level with the rim on dunks. A 6-foot-10 Cameroon native, Missi was productive in the game scoring 11 points and hauling in 17 rebounds on the night.
“It was a very good win today,” Missi said following his performance. “We played really good especially on defense and played together. The energy was great both from our team and the crowd.”
Missi helped fuel the crowd with a couple of powerful dunks that got everyone in the gym on their feet. It helped give a feel for just how explosive he can be when the opportunities come his way around the rim.
“I was focusing on my rebounding tonight and I think I did a pretty good job with how many I got.”
At this point in his development, Missi is his best on both ends playing around the rim. His length comes into play defensively where he can alter or block almost any attempt in the paint if he’s nearby. For a portion of the game, West Nottingham played a 2-3 zone where Missi was the middle man of the backline. Since he was primarily around the rim for the bulk of those possessions, it allowed him to showcase how dominant of a rebounder he can be.
The spring and summer were crucial for Missi as he gained experience on the EYBL Circuit with the PSA Cardinals.
“That was really crazy playing with them. I loved the fit and I really learned a lot. The team spirit is great there and the experience was great.”
Missi earned his biggest offer to date from UCLA in mid-November. He also holds offers from the likes of DePaul, St. John’s, Norfolk State and USC-Upstate. It’s safe to say as word continues to get out and more eyes get on Missi to get a feel for his overwhelming potential, more programs will get involved. Prep Hoops Maryland will also be tracking Missi, the No. 9 player in our 2024 MD/DC player rankings.
