That’s been the case with Leron Richards Leron Richards 5'11" | PG Hillsboro | 2022 State OR but the athletic 6-foot-1, 160-pound guard from Hillsboro is starting to draw some attention. He showcased his athleticism and ability to score around the hoop at the showcase and is hopeful it’s amped up his college recruitment.
“The PrepHoops event was good and I liked it,” Richards said. “There was a lot of talent and good competition. I feel like I could have played a lot better because I know my potential is sky high. But I rebounded well and got up and down the floor quick and I made tough layups.”
At the Expo, Richards really ran the floor well and finished some tough plays at the rim. While his strengths are in those areas, he knows that being a complete player requires some other skills so that’s what his focus was on this off-season.
“I was just working with my uncle on my shooting,” Richards said. “I want to get it so I can shoot from deep and expand my game.”
Despite averaging 13 points and 7 rebounds for the Spartans last season, Richards has yet to be a household name even in the Portland metro area. Still, Multnomah and some JCs have been in touch but he’s open to any and all options.
“If there’s high interest in me, I’ll go anywhere,” Richards said. “As long as it fits my game and I like (the school).”
A big senior season will go a long way in helping Richards reach his goals. He believes that team success will be key. “This season I feel our team is very strong,” Richards said. “We have good defense and good length and I feel like we’ll go pretty far.”
Richards currently ranks as the #86 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
