Continue ReadingThe annual National Prep Showcase took place at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut, and as always it was one of the most talented events in the country before most high school basketball even gets started.
The three day event featured the best post graduate teams from all over the country, ranging from the New England perennial powerhouses to teams in VA, FL, OH, PA, NJ, MD, KS and more.
With so many teams and so much high level talent, I have broken down the standouts into different regions and parts within the regions to make following easier.
We take a look at part five of the standouts in New England, which featured tons of teams mostly from the NEPSAC.
If you’d like to watch the entire event, you can stream the playback on the CBG Live Network here.
Days’Juan Waters | 6’4” WG | Vermont Academy 2022
Waters, who was a standout at Good Counsel in DC the past few years, is prepping at Vermont Academy and had a great showing in their only game of the weekend, a double OT loss to Massanutten. The 6’4” wing is a knock down shooter from deep with good size and a solid athlete, he moves well off the basketball and gets open easily and he’s shown improvement as a secondary ball handler and a creator off the bounce. He finished the game with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds on 7-for-15 shooting from the field.
Dion Brown Dion Brown 6'3" | SG Vermont Academy | 2022 State New E | 6’3” CG | Vermont Academy 2022
The UMBC commit was crucial in their come back effort as he brought great energy on both ends of the floor and showed good leadership on a young Vermont Academy team. The 6’3” wing is a bouncy and high motor guy who can guard the other team’s best player, play above the rim and rebound and he can play on and off the ball to create for himself and others. He finished with 12 points and 4 rebounds in their loss.
Andre Mills Andre Mills 6'3" | CG Brimmer & May | 2024 State #116 Nation New E Jr. | 6’4” WF | Vermont Academy 2024
Mills was very impressive in the event, so impressive that he picked up an offer from Iowa, and he has tons of potential moving forward. The strong 6’4” wing is extremely athletic and plays with a terrific motor, he can knock it down from deep with consistency and he brings great energy on both ends of the floor and does all of the little things to help his team win as well. He finished with 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field and 4-for-7 from deep and he pitched in 7 rebounds and 4 steals before fouling out.
Joson Sanon Joson Sanon 6'5" | SF Vermont Academy | 2024 State #11 Nation New E | 6’5” WF | Vermont Academy 2025
Sanon didn’t put up huge numbers in their only game, but there’s no doubt the freshman has immense potential moving forward and showed a lot of flashes that he could be a big time prospect in a few years. At 6’5” he already has a good frame with good length, he can play on and off the basketball and he showed he can make plays on both ends of the floor. He’ll be a guy to keep an eye on moving forward.
Kyle Filipowski Kyle Filipowski 6'9" | PF Wilbrham & Monson | 2022 State #13 Nation New E | 6’10” PF | Wilbraham & Monson Academy 2022
The best prospect at one of the best events in the country will come in with a lot of expectations and hype, and he met those expectations and more as he played fantastically in their only game in their win over South Kent. The 6’10” power forward has tons of tools at his size as he can shoot it from deep, he’s a powerful and athletic finisher above the rim, he can play inside-out and score it from multiple levels and he’s a good rebounder and has good instincts on both ends. The Duke commit finished with 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the field and 3-for-3 shooting from deep and he had 14 rebounds as well.
Deven Austin Deven Austin 6'5" | SG Wilbraham & Monson | 2022 State New E | 6’5” WF | Wilbraham & Monson Academy 2022
The Princeton commit was a great Robin to Filipowski’s Batman in their win, as the 6’5” wing brought great energy on both ends of the floor and made a lot of plays for his team. He’s a long and athletic wing with a good skill set both on and off the ball, he can lock up scorers on the defensive end and he plays with a good motor. He finished with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Jeremiah Dorsey Jeremiah Dorsey 6'3" | PG MacDuffie | 2022 New E | 5’11” PG | Wilbraham & Monson Academy 2023
Dorsey was the x-factor for Wilbraham & Monson and will be very important for them in their run this season. The lead guard sets the tone on both ends of the floor, he makes plays for himself and others off the bounce and he shot the ball extremely well in their win from multiple levels. He finished with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field and 2-for-3 from deep, and he pitched in 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.
