Today we are going to look at some guys who have a chance to break out this season and garner some more spotlight attention in the class of 2023. Some of these guys could be new names or guys taking the next step from role guy to center stage.
Eli Oliver Eli Oliver 6'2" | SG Wabaunsee | 2023 State KS , 6’3 Guard/Wing, Wabaunsee: After being a catalyst to their post season run last year, Oliver looks to bring that level of play early this season. His length on the perimeter and ability to shoot the ball and play off the catch should get him going early. No reason why he couldn’t lead the Chargers in multiple statistical categories this season with his skill set and consistency on the floor.
Tyson Ruud Tyson Ruud 6'5" | SF Basehor-Linwood | 2023 State KS , 6’5 Wing, Basehor Lindwood: Going from not playing much Varsity last year at all to being one of the “guys” this season to help keep Basehor’s winning tradition alive. He will help create a star studded group of himself, Trevor Mcbride Trevor Mcbride 6'2" | CG Basehor Linwood | 2022 State KS , and Ty Hofer Ty Hofer 6'4" | SF Basehor-Linwood | 2022 State KS who each provide something a little different on the floor. Ruud should be a big time X Factor with his tremendous athleticism, size, ability to knock own the three ball, and guard multiple positions. Ruud had a big time spring and summer and will look to continue his growth on the floor.
Parker Leeds Parker Leeds 6'1" | PG Emporia | 2023 State KS , 6’1 Guard, Emporia: With the departure of Charles Snyder, Emporia will look to a bunch of new pieces and guys expanding their roles to make up for his massive production and Leeds has the tools, work ethic, and competitiveness to provide a lot of that. Leeds can play both guard spots, is quick and tough with the ball in transition, is a knock down shooter, and can guard the ball at a high level. Look for some really solid productivity stats this year and some All League nods here.
Kaeden Bonner Kaeden Bonner 6'1" | SG Seaman | 2023 State KS , 6’1 Guard, Seaman: Having been thrown into the fire at the Varsity level since his freshman year, Bonner has a ton of experience playing and producing in big games. This is the year though where he can be poised and primed to solidify himself as one of the top guards in the Centennial. Had a solid Grassroots run with Run GMC as well. Look for improvements on his 11.7 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists per game from last season.
Fernando Gracia Fernando Gracia 6'6" | PF Olathe North | 2023 KS , 6’6 Forward, Olathe North: Had a summer where he turned some heads and garnered warranted attention. The big fella should be a staple this season for Olathe North and be a forward prospect that elevates his team and gets himself on some radars. Protects the paint at a high level on the defensive end, is an inside/out type of post player, and has good athleticism to make plays getting downhill off rolls, rim runs, and offensive rebound opportunities.
