Hayfield was crowned the champion after defeating Fairfax Christian in a thrilling championship game.
Here’s a look at part two of the many 2022 standouts from the event. If you’re interested in watching the Finale in full, you can see the games on the CBG Live Network.
George Beal George Beal 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2022 State VA | 6’4” WF | King’s Fork
Beal continues to show improvements and looks like one of the best players in the 757 right now, as the LIU-Brooklyn commit has took on a totally new role in the Fall Series with King’s Fork. The 6’4” wing is a big time athlete with a good motor on both ends of the floor, but he’s stepped into more of a ball handling and playmaking role and looks very good in it as he has good passing ability and shot making ability off the bounce. He impacts the game across the board in a number of ways and he is just scratching the surface with how good he can be.
Ryan Blakey Ryan Blakey 5'8" | PG Fairfax Christian | 2022 State VA | 5’9” PG | Fairfax Christian
Blakey was a huge reason that Fairfax Christian made a run to the championship game before falling to Hayfield, as he was the definition of a tone setter on both ends of the floor. The 5’9” lead guard is a menace on the defensive end as he has quick hands and great instincts allowing him to get a number of steals both on and off the basketball, and he makes life a nightmare for opposing ball handlers. He’s lightning quick and shifty off the bounce, he can score it from all three levels and just knows how to be effective on both ends of the floor.
Zach Bolgert Zach Bolgert 6'7" | PF Fairfax Christian School | 2022 State VA | 6’7” PF | Fairfax Christian
Bolgert is a difference maker for this Fairfax group as he provides a mismatch with his size and shooting ability, as he can really stretch the floor and knock it down consistently from deep. The 6’7” forward holds his own in the paint as a defender and as a rebounder, and he has good touch in the paint offensively as he can crash the glass and score it with both hands around the basket. He really thrives on the perimeter offensively though, as he’s a consistent shooter that can bring the bigs out and he’s a very good passer as well.
Austin Bailey | 5’10” PG | Fairfax Christian
Bailey was the x-factor for this Fairfax group in their run, as he split time handling the basketball and playing off the ball and he just made the right play and made shots consistently throughout the day. He’s a poised guard on the ball who handles pressure and stays out of traps, he has good feel for the game and a good skill set where he knows when to create for others and when to create for himself. He’s going to play a vital role in their backcourt and is part of their depth that makes them so dangerous.
Walker Andrews Walker Andrews 6'1" | CG Virginia Episcopal | 2022 State VA | 6’0” WG | Virginia Episcopal School
Andrews continues to show that he’s one of the top shooters in the state and an impact player on both ends of the floor with his high motor and gritty style of play. He has deep range off the catch, he can attack closeouts and he can score it around the basket with his athleticism and he’s a dog on the defensive end as he plays with good energy and is a hustle kind of guy.
Piercen Young Piercen Young 6'4" | SG Virginia Episcopal | 2022 State VA | 6’4” WF | Virginia Episcopal School
Young is coming off of an injury that kept him out last year, but there’s no question who on this team is the leader as he leads vocally and by example with his all out style of play. He’s a gritty player who plays the game the right way as he can make plays for others, rebound and score in different ways, and he brings it all on both ends of the floor and will do whatever it takes to help his team win.
