This is my take on the top twenty players that should be on every college coach’s radar going into this season. Be on the lookout for the rest of my top player’s list and my coverage of all the athletes.
Akintola Akinniyi Akintola Akinniyi 6'7" | PF Denton Guyer | 2023 State TX 2023 6’6 Guyer High School
Akintola is a strong post presence who has great touch on his bunny hooks and post fades. He possesses great strength and knows how to use his frame and strength to his advantage down low. On offense, he is a patient scorer in the midrange and paint. He does not get rushed into looks and can pump fake his opponents to death. He offers great rim protection and is very aware at sliding over and cutting off passing angles. I would like to see him work on his ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim out of the triple threat.
Trey Jackson Trey Jackson 6'6" | PF South Oak Cliff | 2024 TX 2024 6’5 South Oak Cliff Ptech
Trey is an explosive athlete with all the tools to translate to the next level. He posses great end-to-end speed and athleticism. His leaping ability strikes fear into the hearts of defenders. He plays with high energy and has a real motor. He was not afraid to go after chase-down blocks and protected the rim like an experienced center. I am excited to see how he develops over the next few years. He has all the tools to translate to the next level if he continues to work hard and develop his overall game. As the game is getting quicker, I would like to see him work on his ability to put the ball on the floor and get to his shots in the midrange.
Caylon Davis Caylon Davis 6'1" | PG Waxahachie | 2023 State TX 2023 6’0 Waxahachie
Caylon is a freak athlete who possesses some real leaping ability. He is a polished guard who is great at throwing cross court passes. He has long arms, which allows him to dominate over undersized guards. He is great on the fast break and knows how to attack the midrange or the paint while the defense is on his heels. He has a smooth shot off the bounce and is extremely comfortable from all around the court. I would like to see him work on his ability to attack the glass and continue to do the dirty work for his team.
Rylan Kennedy Rylan Kennedy 6'4" | SF Mansfield Lake Ridge | 2023 TX 2023 6’5 Lake Ridge High School
Rylan is an athletic wing who knows how to finish with the best of them at the rim. He is a very impressive finisher; he bullies opponents out of the way when attacking the rim. He is a very aware player on the offensive end of the floor, he is a great passer out to his shooters, especially after he draws the attention of the defense. He is a great help defender and can slide out and guard positions 1-4 with ease. I would like to see him work on staying engaged and aggressive on defense. His jumper needs work as well, but he has time to correct some basic things with his shot and really transform his game and take it to the next level.
RICHARD LEMBOYE RICHARD LEMBOYE 6'4" | SG Mansfield Summit | 2023 TX 2023 6’3 Mansfield Summit High School
Richard is an impressive athlete with some real leaping ability. He seems to jump with ease, even multiple times while fighting for a rebound. He is ferocious on the boards for a wing, you can tell he thrives in the paint. He is a ferocious attacker going downhill, especially in the frontcourt. He finished every opportunity he had on the fast break with some jaw-dropping dunks. He is an elite on-ball defender who can move his feet well and guard positions 1-3 with ease. I would like to see continued development with his shot off the bounce and getting to post moves in the mid-post. He will be drawing a lot of the defense’s attention in the coming years so I would like to see him work on firing passes out to his shooters as well.
