Edison was a team no one feared last year, but now every time there are talks about the top teams in the area, people say, “Do not sleep on the Inventors.” The Inventors are a young team with some of the area’s top young players eager to make a name for themselves. The Inventors currently hold 3 of the top ten players in the area in the class of 2024.
Head Coach Reggie Simmons 13th season
2020-2021 Record 4-8
Key returners
Mike Morgan 6’4 Guard 2022 – Morgan is a versatile athletic guard who finishes at the rim well. He has developed a very nice looking three-ball and has a keen feel for the floor. The most underrated part of Morgan’s game is his ability to find the open man while penetrating to the rim; his passing ability will impress many coaches and scouts this upcoming season.
Davijon Lipscomb 6’3 Guard 2024 – Lipscomb is an offensively gifted combo guard. A high-level scorer on all three levels from any area on the court. Also a terrific ball-handler with a high basketball IQ. He can guard 1-5 on the court as he is a solid physical guard who is known as one of the top players in the area in his class.
Top Newcomers
Edmari Binion 6’5 Forward 2024 – My pick as one of the top two players in the class of 2024 is Rochester’s Edmari Binion. Binion has been a top prospect in the area since he was ten years old and has continued to develop his game. A guy who easily will average 10+ points and 10+ rebounds and will make himself known as one of the top players in the area. He is developing a nice-looking 15-foot jump shot, and once Binion develops a consistent 3 point shot. He will be a known division one recruit.
Tyler Bethea 6’1 G 2023 – Bethea brings a wealth of skills to this Inventors team, a great rebounder and defender who handles the ball exceptionally well in transition. Bethea comes into the season as a transfer but will make his name known by this season’s end.
X Factor
Marcqell Freeman 5’9 Point Guard 2024 – Freeman will be a deciding factor in just how far the Inventors go this season. The sophomore point guard will be one of the youngest players on the team but will be expected to lead this young Inventors team. He is an excellent ball-handler who can get to any spot on the floor, but where Freeman excels is his ability to shoot the ball from anywhere. The kid can and will shoot it from anywhere across halfcourt, and teams in the area know this.
Prospect to keep an eye on
Jabari Larkins 6’0 G/F 2025 – Larkins is an intriguing young prospect who is not a guy who will not be a massive contributor from day one but has all the tools to be a future stud. An athletic, high-energy guy who wants to play defense every possession. Working on developing a consistent jump shot, but he will be a dangerous player in the years to come for a very young Inventors team.
