Team in Focus: Long Island Lutheran

For many years LUHI has been a perennial fixture in not only the State finals but in the National Spotlight. Sending players to Illinois, Ohio State, St Johns, Pepperdine, Cal, St Josephs. It was no wonder why their open gyms I attended also had Hofstra, Marist, Quinnipiac, Illinois, Wake Forest, Fairfield, College of Charleston, Virginia in attendance.

A super talent. Dynamite point guard. Extremely athletic. Elite level with the ball in his hands. Breaks down his defender and scores the ball at all three levels.

Jayden Ried       5”10.          2023

Tremendous vision. Quick and explosive to the rim. Very crafty ball handling. Made two unbelievable passes at their open gym. One was a full-court length pass and the other was in the half court off the bounce. He is one of the best passers of the basketball I have seen. 

James Johns        6”5.          2023

A great communicator on the court. Very vocal player. Showed the ability to flush the ball in transition with authority. Athletic player who controls his body in different ways to score around the rim.

Louis Hutchinson         6”6.     2022

Excellent rotation on his ball coming out of his hand. Good elevation on his jumper. Has a smooth stroke. Excellent rebounder. Long and athletic player. Very quick and smooth. Extremely impressed with his game. Plain and simple he’s a player.

Jaiden Williamsb Jaiden Williamsb 6'4" | SG Cardinal Hayes | 2023 NY .            6”11.         2022

Big physical player. Relentless rebounder. A paint protector. Excellent post defender. Uses his strength well. Runs the floor on the break. Finishes inside off of misses or from half-court sets.

Finely Sheridan         6”8.         2022

Big long forward. Handles the ball well for his size. Very athletic. Scores around the rim off the drive as well as off an entry pass. Outstanding shooter of the ball.

Matthew Mahoney           6”2.       2022

Strong-bodied player. Tough to knock off-ball. Very active player. Quick to the rim. Capable of hitting the open jumper.

Kayden Mingo.             6”1.        2025

A playmaking guard. Great court vision and awareness, his head is always up looking to make a play. Excellent mid-range game. Way ahead of his years defensively.
