It feels like it’s been forever since fans got a chance to enjoy the excitement and pageantry of high school basketball. With so many players denied an opportunity to play last season, the anticipation to watch them play grows even more. In this article, we examine some of the state’s most anticipated debuts.
TJ McTyer TJ McTyer 5'9" | PG Mojave | 2023 State NV 5’10 PG Mojave 2023 (#18PHN 2023) – Over the last year and a half, McTyer has made a name for himself as a tough scoring guard. He is going to get an opportunity to lead a talented Mojave squad. Most realize the guard has talent, the question now is how much. His ability to operate, organize and score for the Rattlers will be a key factor in determining the team’s season success.
DJ Thomas DJ Thomas 6'2" | PG Liberty | 2024 #19 Nation NV 6’0 PG Liberty 2024 (#1PHN 2024) – Thomas is already one of the top PGs in America. The season being wiped away from him last year has only made the anticipation to watch him play grow. Add in the fact that he plays for a team with legitimate state championship aspirations and Thomas’s debut is one of the most anticipated in years.
Alijah Adem Alijah Adem 6'2" | PG Spring Valley | 2024 State #174 Nation NV 6’1 PG Spring Valley 2024 (#8PHN 2024) – Adem will be the main guy for a Spring Valley club looking to take home the title. The PG has the ability to impact games with his scoring, shooting, and playmaking. He was going to be thrown into the fire as a freshman, however now after a year of getting bigger, faster stronger, the sophomore PG seems poised to have an even larger impact this season.
Taj DeGourville Taj DeGourville 6'4" | SF Red Rock Academy | 2024 State #203 Nation NV 6’5 SF Durango 2024 (#3PHN 2024) – Degourville has been a household name around the city for what seems like forever. The wing is a natural talent, with the ability to not only make tough shots but also make plays for his teammates. The 6’5 wing will suit up for one of the state’s top squads, and his ability to display those aforementioned skills will go a long way to helping the Trailblazers reach their goals.
Shane Thomas Shane Thomas 6'3" | SG Durango | 2022 State NV 6’3 SG Durango 2022 (#3PHN 2022) (featured image) – Thomas is a senior but it’s been quite a while since he’s taken the floor. The athletic 3 and D guy is a rising prospect, and the type of player capable of leading his team in scoring or defending the opposing team’s best player. His debut may be most anticipated, simply because of how long it’s been since he last suited up in an official Varsity game.
