But Axton Wongsomadi Axton Wongsomadi 6'1" | CG Century | 2023 State OR isn’t satified. The skilled 6-foot, 165-pound guard from Century lived in the gym this off-season looking to expand on his game, yet still working hard on keeping his shot sharp as he looks forward to his upcoming season and beyond.
Last season, Wongsomadi sank 4.1 threes per game on his way to leading the state while knocking down the shots at a 39 percent rate. But as good a shot as he is, he’s much more than a standstill shooter and is hoping to showcase that this year.
“I’ve been going in the mornings, working on my pull-up game and trying to attack the basket more,” Wongsomadi said. “I’ve been trying to creating space off the dribble and try to improve my catch-and-shoot a little bit. I want to be more consistent.”
Sadly a fractured wrist and sprained ankle after the 2001 season shelved Wongsomadi for AAU ball, where he usually runs with Team Solid. But once healthy he picked things up and has been playing with WC Hoops at the Beaverton Hoop Fall League. Like many he’s hoping to play at the college level. There’s obviously some time to go but his aim is set high.
“I like U of O, PSU, or I’m even hoping to go to USC,” Wongsomadi said. “I’m just hoping to get a scholarship.”
For now though his junior season awaits. The team’s returning leading scorer (15.3 ppg) is looking forward to some big things for the Jaguars and himself. “We’re going to be great,” Wongsomadi said. “People are coming in and working hard. I want to keep working on my game and try to average like 20 (ppg), rebound more, and be more of a facilitator and not just a scorer – do all-around things.”
Wongsomadi currently ranks as the #21 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2023 rankings.
