In this sophomore class, there are quite of few combo guards who fit that bill. In this latest positional ranking review, we will take a look at the top combo guards in the class as most of them prepare for their first action as a varsity player.
Top Ten
- Jordan Moore Jordan Moore 6'4" | CG Hahnville | 2024 State LA (6’2″ – Shaun Dumas Academy)
- Jayce Depron Jayce Depron 7'5" | CG Madison Prep | 2024 State LA (6’3″ – Madison Prep)

- Michael Mouton Michael Mouton 6'5" | SG St. Thomas More | 2024 State LA (6’3″ – St. Thomas More)
- Javon Johnson Javon Johnson 6'1" | CG Bossier | 2024 State LA (6’0″ – Bossier)
- Taj Jackson (6’1″ – Liberty)
- Mar’Travious Kennedy Mar’Travious Kennedy 6'3" | CG Summerfield | 2024 State LA (6’3″ – Summerfield)
- Kendrell Perry Kendrell Perry 6'1" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2024 State LA (6’1″ – St. Thomas Aquinas)
- Earnest Chatman Earnest Chatman 6'0" | CG Ruston | 2024 State LA (6’0″ – Ruston)
- Tiliciuis Irvin Tiliciuis Irvin 6'4" | CG East Ascension | 2024 State LA (6’2″ – East Ascension)
Jordan Moore Jordan Moore 6'4" | CG Hahnville | 2024 State LA heads a group of explosive sophomores at the combo guard position. The 2021 state champion at Crescent City moved with his coach Shaun Dumas to his new academy and will play on a national circuit. Moore can explode to the rim when he gets a lane and he can also shoot it from deep (shoot over 35% from 3 last season). Jayce Depron Jayce Depron 7'5" | CG Madison Prep | 2024 State LA is a player in the same vein as he is almost automatic from the corner three but can put the ball on the deck and elevate over others. McKennis Savoie McKennis Savoie 6'2" | CG North Central | 2024 State LA is more of a slasher but he can get to the rim with the best of them. The top three combo guards are players that will make a big impact night in and night out.
The remaining members of the top ten are players who have a big upside. Mouton and Irvin are positionless players who play can play either guard position. Both of them are great outside shooters as well. Kennedy may be the most talented class C player no one knows about. He plays all five positions and will be put in position to score 20 to 30 a game. Taj Jackson has a similar skill set to the top three players and will be one to watch for Liberty this season. Javon Johnson Javon Johnson 6'1" | CG Bossier | 2024 State LA became a starter midway through last season because of his shooting prowess. He will have more responsibility this season for the Bearkats. Kendrell Perry Kendrell Perry 6'1" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2024 State LA and Earnest Chatman Earnest Chatman 6'0" | CG Ruston | 2024 State LA will be leaders of their respective teams once they leave the gridiron.
Breakout Players
Noah Brookter Noah Brookter 6'2" | CG Soutide | 2024 State LA (6’1″ – Southside) – Brookter has shown constant improvement all summer and his performances at the Prep Hoops Top 250 in Louisiana and the Frosh/Sophomore Academy was just a culmination of that work. He is a hard-nosed defender who defends every possession like it is his last. On offense, he looks to drive when he has the ball in his hands. I can see Brookter evolving into a “3 and D” type of player as the season evolves.
Jordan Comanche Jordan Comanche 6'6" | CG Wossman | 2024 State LA (6’4″ – Wossman) – Comanche can play the guard or the wing for Coach Casey Jones. He showed that he could be a playmaker at the Prep Hoops Top 250 and he can be a finisher on the break. Comanche is a player that may end up starting for the Wildcats before the season is over.
Jamadrion Lillard Jamadrion Lillard 6'3" | CG Ruston | 2024 State LA (6’2″ – Ruston) – Lilliard played multiple positions for the Ruston Bearcats last season seeing success as lead guard and on the wing. He is a long and athletic guard who can make the three. With some increased touches this year, I think he has first team all-district potential with a chance at all-state. He has that type of talent.
Alonzo Driver Alonzo Driver 5'11" | CG Lakeview | 2024 State LA (6’0″ – Lakeview) – Driver showed this summer that he has “3 and D” potential. Playing in an offense where they create extra possessions by turnovers and constantly pushing the ball, Driver may have a 20 point average. That will be clutch for a Lakeview team looking to garner there 3rd straight trip to Marsh Madness.
Other combo guards that will make an impact:
Anthony Angelle Anthony Angelle 6'3" | CG St. Thomas More | 2024 State LA (6’3″ – STM), Justin Dejoie Justin Dejoie 6'3" | CG De La Salle | 2024 State LA (6’2″ – De La Salle), Leonard Hicks Leonard Hicks 6'3" | CG East Ascension | 2024 State LA (6’3″ – East Ascension), Skyler LeDoux Skyler LeDoux 6'3" | CG Zachary | 2024 State LA (6’3″ – Zachary), Konnor Cotton (6’1″ – Calvary Baptist)
