Your PrepHoops Nebraska team was there throughout the afternoon to observe and analyze the bevy of talented players in the gym on Sunday. Here are some prospects who I hadn’t seen much of prior to the expo whose game impressed me on Sunday afternoon.
Malakai Burns Malakai Burns 5'10" | CG Ralston | 2024 NE – Ralston
Burns transferred to Ralston prior to his sophomore year and the Rams will greatly benefit from the addition. He did a little bit of everything throughout the day and even at a size disadvantage, he was fighting for rebounds and had a few tough finishes inside. What impressed me the most aside from Burns’ athleticism was his court vision and passing ability. He had a couple of highlight-reel dimes throughout the day and some great handles as well.
Jeron Gager – Ogallala
Gager may have been the scrappiest guard in the gym on Sunday and he was doing so by getting after it on both ends of the floor. The junior guard is lightning-quick with steady handles and that made it tough for defenders to stay in front of him on Sunday. Gager has a nifty bag of finishing moves that were on full display. Gager also has a good-looking shot from deep with some extended range behind the three-point line. He also displayed solid floor general skills distributing the ball well to those on his squad. Gager could have a breakout junior season for Ogallala.
Kendall Hinton Kendall Hinton 6'4" | PF Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE – Lincoln Southeast
You don’t see many sophomores in high school who have the frame of Kendall Hinton Kendall Hinton 6'4" | PF Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE . He’s 6’4 and long, but in his performance, on Sunday he showed more on-ball guard tendencies. Slashing to the basket off the ball and taking defenders head-on in the lane when he was on the ball, Hinton’s build and athleticism give him a chance to be a special player down the line at Lincoln Southeast. He certainly has the build and the tools to turn some heads.
Kyler Hellbusch Kyler Hellbusch 6'0" | SG North Bend Central | 2024 State NE – North Bend Central
North Bend Central has had some good players in their program these past few years and Hellbusch fits that mold perfectly. He was Mr. Do It All offensively in the games where I watched him. He was distributing it well, and showed flashes of being a big time scoring threat at any level. Only a sophomore, Hellbusch is a small school name to watch for in the coming years.
Elijah Gaeth Elijah Gaeth 6'1" | SG Millard North | 2024 State NE – Millard North
Millard North continues to have a steady and solid pipeline of talented players coming through their basketball program. Elijah Gaeth Elijah Gaeth 6'1" | SG Millard North | 2024 State NE played with some grit and tenacity on both ends of the court. I liked his different finishing moves that he showed off at the rim, along with how crisp his passes to teammates looked. Another new name to watch for the class of 2024, he’s in a very talent rich program coming off of a state title at Millard North, with plenty of time to develop and learn to solidify his game.
