I was in attendance on Sunday for the second week of action at the Pacers Athletic Center taking in games on four courts of high level competition. On Monday, we highlighted six top performers from the event as well as seven players who really stood out as potential stock-risers heading into their respective high school seasons. Now, I will empty out the rest of my notebook with additional thoughts from throughout the day.
In one of the first games I watched on Sunday, a trio of 2024 prospects stood out as having continued to improve coming out of the summer. Kyler Krull (Whitko H.S. 2024), Cole Hayworth Cole Hayworth 6'5" | SF Concordia Lutheran | 2024 State IN (Concordia Lutheran H.S. 2024), and Tillman Etchison Tillman Etchison 5'10" | PG Hamilton Heights | 2024 State IN (Hamilton Heights H.S. 2024) all were impressive in that early time slot. Krull is a tall, 6’3″-6’4″ guard that can play both on or off of the ball. He handled it very well on Sunday and continued to show off his great shooting ability. Poised for a strong sophomore season. Hayworth is a 6’5″ forward that really showed his potential over the summer for IE Focus Premier. He is a long lefty with a nice package of skills on the offensive end. Hayworth stepped out to three-point range and knocked in a couple while also being an effective finisher around the basket. Very good rebounder, especially as he continues to get stronger. Lastly, Etchison is a super quick point guard with a good feel for the game offensively. He can create his own shot off the bounce and elevates up high on his jump shot which helps make up for his smaller frame. Showcased good court vision and passing ability.
Two freshman that really stood out on the day, besides the obvious performance of Jalen Haralson Jalen Haralson 6'7" | PG La Lumiere | 2025 #8 Nation IN , were Chase Konieczny Chase Konieczny 6'4" | SG South Bend Saint Joseph | 2025 State #277 Nation IN (South Bend St. Joesph H.S. 2025) and Jaymen Townsend Jaymen Townsend 6'6" | SF Marion | 2025 State #248 Nation IN (Marion H.S. 2025). Konieczny was very good out our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase, but he solidified that strong performance on Sunday by doing it against juniors and seniors. I’ll reiterate that the 6’3″ guard is one of the most purely skilled players in Indiana’s Class of 2025. Elite shooter. Townsend has impressive size at 6’5″ but couples it with the skill of a guard. He handles the ball well enough to breakdown defenders and get to the rim where he uses his physicality to finish around the rim. I would expect to see him contributing at the varsity level from day one.
There were a handful of Class of 2022 prospects that showed that they are for big senior seasons. Luke Carroll Luke Carroll 6'5" | SF Hamilton Heights | 2022 State IN (Hamilton Heights H.S. 2022) already has some college interest, but proved to be a strong small college prospect. Athletic, strong, 6’4″ wing with a lot of versatility. He has the strength to finish through small defenders along with skill to punish bigger defenders. Good ball handler for his size. He will take over a much larger scoring role this winter at Hamilton Heights. Jamison Dunham Jamison Dunham 5'11" | PG Pendleton Heights | 2022 State IN (Pendleton Heights H.S. 2022) was another senior that stood out with his performance Sunday. He is a smaller guard with a lot of ball skill. Very, very good shooter and can make tough ones off of the dribble as well. A third senior, Bobby Wonnell Bobby Wonnell 6'2" | SG Taylor | 2022 State IN (Taylor H.S. 2022) may have been the one the jumped out to me the most. The 6’2″ guard is an elite shooter that can get it off in a hurry. Should continue to add more Division III interest throughout this season.
A pair of Class of 2023 big men played very well on Sunday evening. First off, a shoutout to James Stasey James Stasey 6'9" | C Fishers | 2023 State IN (Fishers H.S. 2023) is in order for the way he battled with Xavier Booker Xavier Booker 6'11" | PF Cathedral | 2023 State #4 Nation IN (Cathedral H.S. 2023) in their matchup. Stasey is a legitimate 6’7″ and held his own going against the best prospect in the state. He showed improved strength and physicality, finished against size, and worked hard on the glass. He continues to be one of my favorite under-the-radar 2023 names to follow. The other impressive big was 6’6″ Hayden Dase Hayden Dase 6'6" | C Kankakee Valley | 2023 IN Kankakee Valley H.S. 2023). I hadn’t really had the chance to see Dase a whole lot prior to Sunday, but he finished well around the basket throughout the event. Just continues to get better and better.
