Continue ReadingIn my next few articles, I will be breaking down some of the newest ranked players in the Class of 2024 Florida Rankings released by Prep Hoops this month. These are guys who I was able to watch during their freshmen seasons and think will make a big impact on their respective teams this winter. Whether it was grassroots season, the Prep Hoops Circuit, or just watching their high school teams last year, these are the guys who have stuck out to me in the 2024 class. These are the guys who are just outside the top 25 that still deserve some top tier recognition.
Ta’Veon Jones Ta’Veon Jones 5'7" | PG Windermere | 2024 State FL , 5-6, Central Florida Christian Academy, Ranking: #52
Honestly, at #52, I think Jones may be ranked too low here. The 5-6 point guard may not look like a big time recruit no paper, but this kid is a pure bucket. With his combination of heart, relentless work ethic, and intensity, defenses tend to struggle to contain Jones on the offensive end. Last season, I watched him put 40 points on a talented North Marion squad’s heads, even with 2024 top ranked big man Sammie Yeanay Sammie Yeanay 6'7" | PF AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State #98 Nation AZ holding down the fort. Jones is the engine behind a newly restocked CFCA that boasts some ridiculous talent and athleticism. He will make huge strides this year and may have this number a bit smaller when this season is said and done.
Reginald Reinhardt Reginald Reinhardt 6'0" | PG Wellington | 2024 State FL , 6-0, Wellington, Ranking: #72
Reggie was by far the best player on the entire Southeast Passion Circuit for Prep Hoops 15U this summer. He is a shifty point guard with a knack for elevating above defenders to get his jumper off. He put up a handful of 20 and 30 point games against teams of all abilities all summer long en route to finishing as runners up in the Passion Region Finals. He’s an underrated guard as of now, but by the end of the year will be one of the most respected young guards in South Florida.
Demetryus Luther Demetryus Luther 6'5" | PF Lakewood | 2024 FL , 6-5, Lakewood, Ranking: #122
I only got to watch Luther one time this summer, but he impressed me immediately with his pure dominance on the inside. The big man poured in 27 points in a half en route to a 40 point game at the US Amateurs State Championship in June, one of the best freshmen showings of the season. I am unsure about where he slots in with a solid Lakewood team, but he will face some of the state’s best in the St. Pete area and should be able to show out and raise his stock a lot this season.
Alvon Isaac Alvon Isaac 5'11" | PG The Villages | 2024 FL , 5-9, The Villages, Ranking: #125
I absolutely love Isaac’s energy and the poise he brings to a competitive The Villages team. Last season, Isaac was a menace on the defensive end and never backed down from guards of all calibers. He has a solid offensive repertoire and can knock down shots or get to the basket with his shifty handles when needed. But his real value comes with his on-ball defense and defensive prowess. He’s unafraid and doesn’t back down from a big time match up. Last year, he was exactly the spark that the Buffalo needed, and this year will serve a similar role for one of the best teams in Central Florida.
