About Lipsey: After missing his sophomore season with an ACL injury, Lipsey burst back onto the scene last year, leading the Little Cyclones to the 4A semifinals and putting up big numbers with remarkable efficiency. An Iowa State commit, he’s arguably the best two-way player in the state, using his speed and physicality to dominate the game on both ends of the floor. A true lead guard who lets the game come to him, he’s at his best when he’s playing downhill and getting to the rim, where he’s an excellent finisher, but he’s also a good shooter from the arc. His court vision, on-ball defense, and leadership may be his best attributes.
Why he can win Mr. Basketball: While his career stats aren’t quite what Te Slaa or Dix possess after missing his sophomore season, he has led the Little Cyclones to the state tournament both seasons he has been healthy, and Ames will open the year as our favorites to win the 4A title. If Lipsey leads them to a championship, this is probably his award to lose.
