Co-hosted by Coastal Elite, Gamepoint and the Cali Rebels travel basketball organizations, many of the players were affiliated with those programs, while some came for additional exposure.
At the end of the event, about 60 kids were selected for the Top 20, 40 and 60 games.
We start the event breakdown with the first, second and third all-showcase teams, followed by reports looking at other standouts by position.
Fall College Showcase- All-Showcase Second Team
Michael McNair, 6-4 2023 G, Linfield Christian
This is the McNair who I think has a chance to be one of the biggest sleepers on the West Coast. A true two guard, McNair scored it from all three levels today: he hit threes both off the catch and off of ball-screen action, scored midrange pullups and attacked the basket off the bounce and scored at and above the rim. McNair has the frame, length and athleticism to be a high-level prospect if he improves his consistency.
Athian Athian, 6-7 2023 F, Capistrano Valley Christian
Athian is an intriguing prospect because of his combination of size, athleticism and ball skills. He shot it well from the perimeter off the catch (hit corner and wing threes), attacked slower defenders with the dribble and finished above the rim in transition. Defensively, he uses his length and lateral quickness effectively in the post and on the perimeter. Only a junior, he has D1 upside.
KJ Gonzalez, 6-0 2022 G, Mater Dei Catholic
Gonzalez has one elite skill: his midrange pull-up jumper is lethal. The solidly built scoring point guard gets to his spots with or without a ball screen, and gets great elevation on his pull-up. He also is a very good finisher at the basket through contact, as he can attack the chest of bigs and finish through them. He should get more attention from D2 programs during his senior year.
Jack Jillson, 5-9 2024 G, Mission Hills
If there was a 2024 who really raised their stock at the event, it was Jillson. Known for his knockdown shooting, his growth as a ball handler and playmaker has been evident in recent viewings. He does a good job changing speed and using his underrated burst to get into the lane, and has a knack for hitting turnaround jumpers when there. He scored it as efficiently as any guard on hand on Saturday.
Cyprian Hyde Cyprian Hyde 6'10" | C Vista | 2023 State CA-S , 6-10 F/C, Vista
While all of the bigs on hand had up and down performances, Hyde’s production and perimeter shooting get him the nod here. Offensively, he can beat you a number of ways. He has a sweeping hook that is difficult to block because of the high release, he has enough burst to beat bigs to the basket and he can knock down shots from the perimeter. Another underrated aspect of his game is his ability to outlet the ball in transition, coupled with his improvement reading double teams. He must get stronger and improve his positioning and ball location on the boards.
