Jahnathan Lamothe Jahnathan Lamothe 6'3" | CG St. Frances | 2023 State #204 Nation MD | 6’4 | St. Frances
Lamothe comes in as arguably the most sought after prospect in his class when scanning the BCL. The 6-foot-4 combo guard has made great strides with his game and body since entering high school and is a legitimate three-level scorer who can also make high IQ plays with the ball in his hands. He’s a heady, active defender who causes deflections and turnovers to spark transition opportunities for his team. Look for Lamothe to be featured more on the ball than he has in his previous two seasons and becomes the leader for this St. Frances roster. Lamothe is being pursued by over two dozen high major programs.
Carlton Carrington Carlton Carrington 6'4" | CG St. Frances | 2023 State #84 Nation MD | 6’4 | St. Frances
Carrington will be a new face for the Panthers this season and last saw action as a freshman when he played for McDonogh. Carrington is much different than he was back then with the most obvious observation being his growth spurt from 5-foot-9 to 6-foot-4. He’s a high level shot maker who’s becoming more dynamic off the dribble. He and Lamothe have potential to provide great balance to the floor with their abilities to score, distribute and space the floor. Carrington’s recruitment has picked up significantly over the last couple of months and now has high major programs actively recruiting him.
Jeannot Basima Jeannot Basima 6'3" | CG John Carroll | 2023 State #200 Nation MD | 6’4 | John Carroll
Basima was last year’s BCL Tournament MVP as he dominated the postseason and led the Patriots to an upset win over St. Frances in the championship game. Basima is the definition of a downhill driver and showed to be unstoppable when going to his right. His pace and IQ have improved since his freshman season and I expect him to become even more confident in both of those categories as a junior. Basima is not only one of the better, versatile defenders in the BCL, but the entire state. Basima is being courted by some low major programs, which has surprised me to this point, as I believe he could be a consistent contributor to a mid major program.
Mitchell Kalu Mitchell Kalu 6'5" | PF Mt. Carmel | 2023 State MD | 6’5 | Mount Carmel
I’m on the island of stating that Kalu is pound-for-pound the best rebounder in the area. Throughout the summer and fall he’s been a walking double-double and I strongly believe it’ll translate into the winter. Kalu is a bruiser in the painted area on both ends, but also has the athleticism and slight of foot to be an effective defender in ball-screen scenarios. On the offensive end, Kalu shares a high level of chemistry with 2022 point guard Deon Perry Deon Perry 5'8" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2022 State MD , which initiates the majority of Mount Carmel’s sets in the half court.
Omarion Reid | 6’6 | Mount Carmel
Reid caught our eyes at DMV Live in June thanks to his activity, size and value that he brings to this Mount Carmel team, who was desperate for any size at the time. He’s a rebounding presence, which was expected due to his size and frame, but what was even more impressive was his soft touch around the rim. He’ll fill a crucial role and minutes for the Cougars this winter as they look to make a push into the contender conversation within the league.
