Continue ReadingThe CBG Fall Series returned this past Sunday, October 10 for session two at U-Turn in Richmond and the atmosphere and competition level was fantastic. With 12 teams on two courts including 10 high school teams, two showcase teams, there was plenty of talent across the board and tons of coaches tuned in and in person there to recruit the talent.
Here’s a look at part one of some of the standouts in the 2022 class at session two. There will be one more session as well on October 24 at U-Turn.
If you’re interested in watching the replays, you can see the entire event on the CBG Live Network.
Keyontae Lewis Keyontae Lewis 6'7" | PF LC Bird | 2022 State VA | 6’8” C | LC Bird
Lewis had a good showing playing with CBG Elite last weekend, and this weekend with LC Bird he continued to look good as he looks much more mobile and was much more aggressive in the paint than he has been in the past. He’s down about 50 pounds over the past few years and has become much more mobile laterally and quick off his feet, he has great touch around the rim and through contact and he plays with a good motor on both ends.
Marcus Allen Marcus Allen 6'0" | PG LC Bird | 2022 State VA | 5’10” PG | LC Bird
Allen is who I believe will be Bird’s x-factor this season, as the 5’10” guard is their first guy off the bench and he continually brings energy and makes plays on both ends of the floor. He’s strong and deceptively quick and knows how to jump passing lanes and read the defense, he picks his spots and makes shots from multiple levels and he makes great decisions in transition.
Chris Brown Chris Brown 6'5" | SG Peninsula Catholic | 2022 State VA | 6’3” G | Peninsula Catholic
Brown continues to look like one of the best two way impact guards in the 757 as the athletic combo made plays on both ends of the floor and brought great energy to his team. He’s a menace in transition as he has good speed and can get to the rim and finish consistently in traffic, he has improved on his ability to knock down shots from deep and he’s able to both guard the other team’s best player and make plays coming help side.
Travon Gray | 6’5” F | Peninsula Catholic
All that Gray seems to do is to produce as he is always finding ways to make winning plays on both ends of the floor and is always around the basketball. He’s a big and bruising forward that can play inside-out, he runs like a guard in transition and plays well above the rim and he can stick the open jumper and rebounds very well for his size.
Nick Marrero | 6’2” WG | Patriot
Patriot made their debut on the CBG platform this past weekend and they didn’t disappoint going 2-0 beating good Carmel and Menchville teams, and Marrero was a big part of it as the senior leader and top scorer on the day. The 6’2” wing scored in double figures both games and was the steady hand for them, and he’s one of the top shooters in the state hitting four threes in both games and showing effortless range and the ability to work off the ball to get open.
Cam Gregory Cam Gregory 6'5" | CG Steward School | 2022 State VA | 6’3” CG | Steward School
Gregory looks like ehe’s ready to accept the leadership and go-to guy role for this Steward School team, as he played well in both of their games leading them to a 2-0 record and leading the team in scoring in both games, including the game winner in overtime over Varina. The long and athletic guard showed he can play on or off the basketball, he picked his spots and scored it in a number of ways and he made others better with his paint touching ability.
Roman Barshow Roman Barshow 6'6" | PF Steward School | 2022 State VA | 6’7” PF | Steward School
One of the more underrated prospects in the 2022 class, Barshow had a stellar day as he took advantage of his opportunities and showed his inside-out versatility throughout the day. The 6’7” forward has a pure shooting stroke with great frame and good arc and was very consistent at the line, he’s a good athlete who had multiple highlight above the rim plays and he does the dirty work and is a mismatch to game plan for.
Nick Booker | 5’8” PG | Steward School
Booker is the heart and soul of this Steward team as well as the x-factor, as the lightning quick guard sets the tone on both ends of the floor and is the straw that stirs the drink for the Spartans. He’s a dog defensively who can guard 94 feet and make ball handlers uncomfortable, he handles pressure and is able to touch the paint at will and he has a knack for making big plays when his team needs him to.
