First off, if you’ve never seen their facility, head up there ASAP. It’s one of the best gyms in the entire county. Kris Bucu has done a great job with the league, giving teams from some of the lower CIF divisions an opportunity to tune up against each other before the start of the season.
In the final article, we look at some of the players who really surprised us.
Justice Ahiafor, 6-7 2025 F, St. Joseph’s Academy
Ahiafor first caught our attention in a JV game that he dominated. Then, playing with the varsity team, he showed flashes of being able to do it on the varsity level. A long, lanky (and skinny) forward with solid ball skills (he’s more of a 3/4 than 4/5), Ahiafor can impact the game with his length and scoring off the dribble against slower forwards. He’s raw, but his physical talent alone makes him a very intriguing long-term prospect.
Lucas Supnet-Lutu, 6-3 2022 F, Ramona
Built like a defensive end, Supnet-Lutu is a bruiser in the paint with excellent footwork and a nose for the ball around the bucket. He also rebounds it very well. Anchoring the post defense, Supnet-Lutu gives the Bulldogs a nice dose of physicality.
Miguel Valenzuela, 5-7 2022 G, Guajome Park Academy
A quick floor general who is a solid vocal leader and passer, Valenzuela helped key an early run against the Bulldogs that had D4 team leading 12-2 before Ramona turned the game into a blowout.
Morgan Linglet, 6-5 2022 F, Guajome Park Academy
A bruiser in the paint who plays hard and and has some solid post footwork. Linglet has improved a lot from last season, and gives them physicality in the paint they were missing last season.
Tevon Sesay, 5-8 2023 G, Guajome Park Academy
A cat quick, long and crafty guard, Sesay has nice burst and can get into the paint when he wants. He has to get stronger to finish through contact and ward off pressure against physical guards, but he’s got some upside.
