As freshmen, they left a lasting impression on us despite a shortened high school season combined with a busy spring and summer. Here are the Baltimore prospects that were included in the top 30.
Bryson Tucker Bryson Tucker 6'7" | CG IMG Academy | 2024 #15 Nation FL | 6’6 | Mount St. Joseph
Ranking: No. 1
Tucker rises to the top of the class following a brilliant summer with Team USA U16 where he contributed in their gold medal effort. The 6-foot-6 combo guard caught attention with his freshman season under head coach Pat Clatchey, but opted not to play AAU in order to focus on making the USA roster. It worked to Tucker’s advantage as he polished his overall game while growing a few inches over the spring to blossom into a prospect that high major programs will be all over. Maryland, Georgetown, Illinois, Penn State, Virginia Tech, LSU and George Mason have all extended offers.
Daquan Davis Daquan Davis 6'1" | PG Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #119 Nation GA | 6’0 | St. Frances/ Team Durant
Ranking: No. 10
Davis is tough as nails and pound-for-pound one of the most intense competitors you’ll find in the state. Davis joined Team Durant this summer on the EYBL Circuit as he prepares for a bigger role with another talented St. Frances group. There’s no question that Davis is one of the top defenders at his position regardless of class, especially when off the ball. He competes on the glass and is above average in that area as well. His offensive game is still developing, but with his willingness to embrace contact and his quick first step, Davis is constantly putting pressure on the rim. Howard, Siena and South Alabama have all offered Davis.
Sincere Barfield Sincere Barfield 5'11" | PG Patterson | 2024 State MD | 5’10 | Parkville
Ranking: No. 13
Barfield was forced to sit out the high school season as was the rest of the MPSSAA schools due to the pandemic. Once the AAU scene ramped up, the 5-foot-10 lead guard was just that for Team BBC and boasted averages that began catching people’s attention. His intensity and passion are something that many prospects are afraid to show on the floor these days, but you can tell he’s in his happy place on the court. Barfield is shifty with the ball and can create space for his jumper anywhere that he chooses. He’s becoming better at understanding how to make others around him better as he continues to mold into more of a true point guard. Defensively he’s competitive similar to Davis mentioned above. He’s constantly looking to jump passing lanes in order to showcase his above the rim finishing ability in the open floor. Low and mid major programs have taken note of Barfield and scheduled unofficial visits.
Andrew Dixon Andrew Dixon 6'1" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2024 State MD | 5’11 | Mt. Carmel/Team Thrill
Ranking: No. 16
Dixon played a key role in Mt. Carmel’s success in the shortened BCL season as a freshman. Looking forward to this year, he should remain an important piece to the puzzle as they look to make themselves known in what will be a tough top-tier in the MIAA/BCL. Dixon can play on or off the ball. He’s good at operating in space where he uses his shiftiness to get his defender off balance and take advantage. He’s a capable shot-maker, but in my opinion, doesn’t shoot enough when open opportunities come his way. Consistent aggression will be an area I watch closely when it comes to Dixon this season.
Kameron Wiley Kameron Wiley 6'8" | C Parkville | 2024 MD | 6’8 | Parkville
Ranking: No. 22
Wiley is a prospect that still has a lot of work to do, but has the makeup and potential to become a significant prospect at his position in this class. He has length and untapped athleticism that can make him into a rim-running forward, but I’ve also seen potential in him developing a shot from mid-range and even from three off the catch. His length disrupts shots in the paint on defense and makes him a formidable rebounder.
RJ Newton RJ Newton 6'4" | SF Archbishop Spalding | 2024 MD | 6’4 | Archbishop Spalding
Ranking: No. 26
We had a chance to see Newton in action during the June live period with his high school team. He’s another prospect that shows intriguing potential and upside given his frame and athletic ability. He can knock down mid-range shots with regularity and be a versatile option on the defensive end of the floor. His overall development will be key and something that we will keep a close eye on this winter.
