Becker is an outstanding athlete who stood out during both the drills portion of the day, and during 5-on-5 gameplay. He’s a long, 6-4/6-5 wing with springs in his legs who finishes above the rim both in transition and when attacking in the halfcourt. His perimeter stroke was impressive, showing a high release and good rotation on his jumper with range beyond the college line, and he showed a willingness to take smaller defenders down onto the block and score with solid footwork and touch.
Another 6-4/6-5 wing who stood out was Hill, who showed the ability to score from all three levels throughout the course of the afternoon. He has excellent length that he uses to impact the game on the defensive end, and he crashes the glass hard on both ends of the floor. His effort and energy levels were unmatched by any other player in the gym on Sunday afternoon. He competes hard on every possession on either end of the floor, and his skill set is catching up to his physical attributes rapidly. He’ll be a player to keep an eye on this winter.
2022 Kaleb Booth Kaleb Booth 6'1" | SG Carroll | 2022 State IA (Carroll)
It should come as no surprise that Booth was a standout, as he’s established himself as one of the better pure scoring threats in the state over the last few years. A 5-11 guard who can fill it up in a hurry from all three levels, he’s nearly automatic shooting it from deep with his feet set, and he’s also one of the better shooters in the state off the dribble, getting the ball into his shooting pocket quickly. He stood out during 5-on-5 action with his ability to break down the defense and get to the bucket for finishes or to find cutting teammates for easy layups.
2023 Colby Dolphin Colby Dolphin 5'10" | PG Kennedy | 2023 State IA (Kennedy)
Dolphin is quickly becoming one of my favorite players in the state. He’s a typical Kennedy guard – tough, physical, defensive-minded, and smart. He doesn’t force anything on the offensive end, and is equally adept getting to the bucket and finishing through contact or running the offense and getting good looks for others. He has a strong mid-range game, and he’ll defend you all 94 (or 84 in high school) feet. He isn’t afraid to stick his nose in and compete on the glass on either end of the floor, and he’ll mix it up with bigger players on the defensive end as well. Nothing comes easy against Dolphin.
2022 Bo Huston Bo Huston 5'10" | SG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2022 State IA (Dallas Center-Grimes)
Booth and Huston put on a shooting display during the drills portion of the afternoon, and the shooting clinic continued during game play for Huston. A lefty with a silky smooth stroke and limitless range, he’s nearly automatic when he has a tiny bit of space, and he has really improved his ability to create his own shot. He does a nice job using creative footwork to clear enough space to get his shot off, and he moves really well without the ball in his hands. Over the summer, he showed an improved ability to get others involved as well, and that continued here.
