The 4A class didn’t have a lot of freshmen who really impacted the high school scene last year. In fact, just one 4A 2024 – Kaiden Abasolo Kaiden Abasolo 6'0" | CG Mulvane | 2024 State KS – cracked the initial rankings. But you can be sure that this year a bunch of sophomores will step forward.
Here are some of the 2024s we expect to make an impact on the 4A classification:
4 Kaiden Abasolo Kaiden Abasolo 6'0" | CG Mulvane | 2024 State KS , 6-foot combo guard, Mulvane HS:
So far, Abasolo stands head and shoulders above his peers in 4A. He got a lot of varsity action last year and held his own for his father’s Wildcats team. It may not end up that way, but for now he’s the head of the 4A class. He contributed 6.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists for Mulvane last year. Look for his role to grow a ton this year.
Hudson Baker, 6-foot-6 center, Labette County HS:
One of the biggest players in the class, Baker will have plenty of opportunity for growth. He’s a long, lean post who swats shots and disrupts the lane. He finished strong with 7 points against Field Kindley and 9 against Independence down the stretch. Watch for this player to develop physically and add to his 2.7 point, 1.9 rebound average from a year ago.
Keaton Hargrave, 6-foot combo guard, Abilene HS:
An intense energy-bringer, Hargrave may be called upon to play a big role as a sophomore to replace some fine Abiline 2021s. Hargrave showed ability this summer to lead the attack, get in the lane, and find teammates for open shots. He works just as hard when he doesn’t have the ball, and he produced a lot for his club team by chasing down plays. Hargrave is physically developed, rugged, and ready for the varsity game.
Dusty Monroe, 6-foot combo guard, Wamego HS (pictured):
Monroe showed a lot of ability to defend this summer. He was active from end to end, harassing ball handlers and picking off passes that hung in the air. Once the ball is in his hands, he take the attack to the defense. He got some nice reviews for his jumper this summer, particularly off the bounce. Wamego will have plenty of guards to rotate this year, but Monroe may carve out a role with his good size and defensive skills.
Jacob Padilla, 5-foot-6 point guard, Hayden HS:
Padilla is a small but dynamic guard. He’s a man in motion, always outworking and outrunning the competition. He got his feet wet on the Hayden varsity last year when injuries knocked out a couple of top-flight seniors. Padilla showed he wasn’t afraid of the spotlight. He is really quick and can split defenders with the dribble and kick to shooters. Padilla is tough and determined at the defensive end.
