I was able to attend the event on the final day July 3, and focused on the local SoCal talent. Here’s a look at some of the top standouts I saw from the final day.
1. Kerie Edmead – St. Pius X-St Matthias 2021
Edmead is one of the better unsigned point guards in Southern California. I’ve seen him play multiple times and he always stands out as a floor leader and someone who can steady a team’s offense. He may be a little bit on the small side but it’s not an issue. He’s a strong guard who can attack the rim and finish strong through contact over bigger defenders. He’s a good midrange shooter too. Can definitely help some team at the next level.
2. Manny Duany – Mayfair 2022
Duany has bounced around a bit, but apparently has settled back in SoCal at Mayfair. He’s a pretty solid ball-handler with an explosive first step. He was playing a little bit at point guard but is more of a shooting guard. Keeps defenders on their heels with his off the dribble game. He’s a talented slasher who can get to the rim with ease. He’s able to draw contact and he can get himself to the free-throw line.
3. Justin Gladney Justin Gladney 6'0" | CG Fairfax | 2020 State CA-S – NELA Prep 2021
Gladney is one of the best unsigned players in the LA area. I watched him since his Fairfax days and he’s always been a good floor leader. He’s got great court vision. A real point guard who plays very unselfishly. On the break he’s got his head up and always sees who is running with him. Looks to make the right pass and is always in pass first mode. He can score though. He’s a strong guard who can get to the rim and can shoot a little bit too. Impact guy at the next level.
4. Roddie Anderson Roddie Anderson 6'1" | PG Fountain Valley | 2022 State CA-S – Fountain Valley 2022
Anderson is one of the fastest rising players in SoCal. His stock has soared with some big performances during the winter and early spring. He’s starting to pick up some Division 1 offers. He’s very comfortable with the ball in his hands and making plays. He can create his own shot on the perimeter and he can slash to the rim. Good drive and kick player who looks to get his teammates easy shots. Good shooter from outside.
