Jaxon Childers Jaxon Childers 6'2" | SG Benzie Central | 2024 State MI 6-3 Benzie Central (pictured at top of article) Like Jaden Montague Jaden Montague 6'3" | PG Cadillac | 2023 State MI I’ve written a lot about this player this summer but when you play like this it forces my hand. Came into the camp with a lot of momentum after hanging a 29 point game with UTS Elite in Atlanta over the weekend. Continues to show next level shot making ability even if it is a little unorthodox. Equally adept at going both left and right. Has played up in age divisions for most of his career and it shows. Has as an athletic maturity that is just a notch above the other guys on this list. The Huskies are in line for a big season as they sliding down a division. A big year and deep tourney run could place this wing firmly on the recruiting map.
Johnny Ingalls Johnny Ingalls 5'11" | PG St. Ignace | 2024 State MI 5-9 St Ignace The only UP player in the camp and is representing the region well. Ball handling ability is excellent but kind of deceptive. Your first inclination is to say it too high and too loose. But he has it on string and it makes him an effective penetrator. Is fearless going to the basket despite not having a big frame. Gets after it defensively in the scrimmages and is not intimidated at all. Showed off deep range on the perimeter with a trigger quick release. Son of two successful coaches. Plays like a player who has been around the game a long time. Coming off a good spring with the Michigan Ballers squad. As he gets bigger I would expect his recruitment to take off.
Lincoln Hicks 5-10 Manton Similar in build and game and build to Ingalls. Even played with him in AAU in the spring. Strength of his game is a strong athletic profile. Can stay in front of and get around just about any guard in the camp. Highly competitive player who kept going hard to the hole despite taking some shots from the bigs. Helps that he has a solid frame and good elevation. Will need to improve his outside shot and tighten up his handle to reach his full potential. Has an unenviable task of stepping into the point guard position at the host school. I would not want to follow seven years of Jayden Perry (Lake Superior St) and Kaleb Moore Kaleb Moore 5'9" | PG Manton | 2021 State MI . He is different type of player than those two. Will end up being more of scoring point guard. Just needs the reps. Played JV last year and had a very COVID impacted shortened season.
Charlie Howell 6-3 Cadillac I thought he struggled a little bit in day 1 action. Looked a little more comfortable on Wednesday. Has a refined perimeter game and good size. I was slightly surprised and also impressed that he chose to go with the bigs when the camp was split by positions. Worked with camp counselor and former MSU standout Kenny Goins. Did well in this setting and showed good footwork. If he adds weight he should have the ability to score both inside and out. Doesn’t need much work out on the perimeter. Could maybe become a little more explosive vertically. But once again the skill level is already there. Good ball handler and sees the court well for his age. Played up on varsity with a deep and talented squad so has some big game experience already under his belt.
Chad Brown 6-4 2025 Hemlock I don’t generally write about 2025’s but this young man has played very well. I didn’t have any info on him coming in. I just knew there were a few Hemlock players in the camp and the squad was coming off a good year. Watching him play he just looked a solid small school big who knows his role. But I couldn’t figure out why he didn’t show up on the roster. He wasn’t on there because he was still in middle school. That changes the calculus quite a bit. Has plenty of size already and a soft touch around the basket. He told me he is 6-4 but honestly might be bigger. Will need to improve his overall athleticism. Similar in size and build the fellow camp participant 2023 Luke Hazelton Luke Hazelton 6'7" | PF Glen Lake | 2023 State MI . Coming off an undefeated regular season the cupboard is not bare for the Huskies. 2022 Bryce Murphy and 2024 Carter Gensch have completed well both days.
