This past Monday, the rankings for the class of 2023 were released. While there was no change in positions one through six, there was a shakeup in the bottom four. We will review the top ten, new additions, and other things as we overview the class of rising juniors in Louisiana.
The Top Ten
- Chris Lockett Chris Lockett 6'5" | CG Isidore Newman | 2023 State #180 Nation LA (6’5″ / CG / Newman)
- John Kelly John Kelly 6'7" | SF John Ehret | 2023 State #237 Nation LA (6’7″ / SF / Crescent City / LivOn Fleue-de-Lis)
- Jamaria Clark Jamaria Clark 6'2" | CG Doyline | 2023 State LA (6’2″ / CG / Doyline / New Orleans Elite)
- Tyler Ringgold Tyler Ringgold 6'7" | SF Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC (6’7″ / SF / Southern Lab / LivOn Fleue-de-Lis)
- Brandon Hardy Brandon Hardy 6'4" | SG Zachary | 2023 State #234 Nation LA (6’4″ / SG / Zachary / LivOn Fleue-de-Lis)

This class is super-talented just like the class of 2022 and the top ten exemplfies that. Chris Lockett Chris Lockett 6'5" | CG Isidore Newman | 2023 State #180 Nation LA , the #1 player, almost led Newman to a state championship only to be thrwarted by an otherwordly performance by Carlos Stewart Carlos Stewart 6'1" | CG Dunham | 2021 State LA . John Kelly John Kelly 6'7" | SF John Ehret | 2023 State #237 Nation LA (#2) and Brandon Hardy Brandon Hardy 6'4" | SG Zachary | 2023 State #234 Nation LA (#5) were integral parts of their respective teams hoisting state championships. McMain forward Corey Chest Corey Chest 6'7" | SF McMain | 2023 #94 Nation MO (#6) probably had the most storybooking ending of them all with two free throws with 0.4 to help McMain win the 4A crown. Jamaria Clark Jamaria Clark 6'2" | CG Doyline | 2023 State LA (#3) of Doyline put up 30 plus a game before being defeated and Tyler Ringgold Tyler Ringgold 6'7" | SF Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC helped Southern Lab to a top three seed in their Division before being removed from the playoffs due to an administrative error. Guards Warren Young Jr. (#9) and Kam Johnson Kam Johnson 5'9" | PG Archbishop Shaw | 2023 State LA (#10) are the remaining members of the top 10 (just in new spots.
Jakobe Dykes Jakobe Dykes 6'5" | SF Shaun Dumas Academy | 2023 State LA has been very impressive on the Prep Hoops Circuit as a three level scorer and a top level defender. Canin Jefferson Canin Jefferson 6'1" | PG Newman | 2023 State LA has impressed at every stop during the grassroots season and is now the top point guard in the class. Dykes is a newcomer to the rankings but very worthy of his rank and Jefferson has transitioned well from his high school season to travel play.
Stock Risers and Newcomers
There were a bevy of stock risers and newcomers in the June rankings for this class. De’Vion Lavergne De’Vion Lavergne 6'3" | CG North Central | 2023 State LA the North Central rising junior has been impressive since the beginning of the high school season and has become a top 20 player in the this class. Newcomers Randarius Morris Randarius Morris 6'4" | SF Northwood-Lena | 2023 State LA (#27) and Derwin Ancar Derwin Ancar 6'2" | SG Phoenix | 2023 State LA (#35) played until March with their high school teams and their good play has carried over to their grassroots and summer seasons. Reece Seicshnaydre Reece Seicshnaydre 6'3" | CG St. Paul's | 2023 State LA (#33) had a successful season with St. Paul’s and will appear in the rankings for the first time. Rounding out the top 40 newcomers is Connor Greavis Connor Greavis 5'11" | PG Livonia | 2023 State LA (#39). His double duty with Showtime Elite on the Prep Hoops Circuit has shown him to be a very good point guard who can score.
All in all, there were 40 new additions to the latest class of 2023 rankings in Louisiana. Look for these names, and others, as Louisiana continues team camp play until the end of the month of June.
