There were even a number of players from the class of 2023 that received all-conference team honors and many led their teams in a variety of categories. As we head into next season, I fully expect these players to reestablish or grow their roles while they attempt to make a name for themselves at their respective schools. Kolton Mitchell Kolton Mitchell 6'1" | PG Lake City | 2023 State ID , Lake City: Kolton went from #4 to #2 had an outstanding season as he helped lead Lake City to a runner-up finish at the state tournament. Mitchell will look to take his team one step further next season in pursuit of the ultimate goal: a state championship. Kolton has a great feel for the game overall and can score at all levels. On defense, he is not afraid to guard the opposing team’s best player and he does not back down against anyone of any size.
Ja’Vonte King Ja’Vonte King 6'3" | SF Blackfoot | 2023 State ID , Blackfoot: King had a breakout year for Blackfoot and established himself as one of the best players in the state and also one of the players with the most potential as well. He jumped from #16 to #5. Ja’Vonte has a great feeling for the game and can score in a variety of ways. He is a tough finisher at the rim with a soft touch from outside. Defensively, he uses his length to jump passing lanes and is a nightmare for defenders in transition.
Varick Meredith Varick Meredith 6'2" | SF Lake City | 2023 State ID , Lake City: Meredith climbed from #9 to #6 this season despite being injured for part of the year. Varick was part of a young and dynamic Lake City team that we will be seeing in the deep playoffs for years to come. Meredith has a great feeling for the game and is one of Lake City’s best all-around defenders. He also has the ability to score at all three levels and knocks down free throws with ease. A healthy Varick is a scary sight for opponents.
