The class of 2023 is full of potential sleeper players already and I am excited to see what they can do in the upcoming seasons. As each player continues to find their role within the team, it will be very interesting to watch their progression as they attempt to make a name for themselves at their respective programs. Continue reading for a look at a handful of newcomers to the class of 2023 rankings update.
Josh Gipe Josh Gipe 5'11" | SG Council | 2023 State ID , Council: Josh is a great all-around player that will be a leader for Council in the next two seasons. He can pass at a high level, easily knock down any three pointer, and he is a pesky defender. Gipe plays like a veteran and he will continue to improve his game on both ends of the floor. Josh has all of the characteristics of a conference player of the year and a lot of skills that simply cannot be taught.
Wyatt Vining Wyatt Vining 6'2" | SF Council | 2023 State ID , Council: Wyatt is a great small forward option for Council. He can finish at the rim really well over either shoulder and his footwork makes him a tough player to guard. He can also step back to the three point line and knock down the occasional jumper from deep. I would expect him to continue expanding his range in the upcoming seasons. On defense, Vining is a great rebounder and really solid rim protector.
Kolby Luna Kolby Luna 6'3" | CG Kellogg | 2023 State ID , Kellogg: Luna is a dynamic scorer for Kellogg who can do it all for the program. Luna will guard the opposing team’s best player and also drop a double-digit offensive performance on the other end. He has relentless energy that he uses to motivate his teammates as they attempt to secure big wins. Kolby has a ton of upside and his growth will determine his ultimate ceiling.
Luke Butler Luke Butler 6'0" | SG Priest River | 2023 State ID , Priest River: Butler had a great season with Priest River and will look to build on the prior season’s successes. Butler has a great shot from downtown and he is always ready to catch and shoot against any and all defenders. It does not take him long to get hot and he is not afraid to demolish opposing teams with a barrage of long shots. Luke has all the skills and more to be a foundational piece for Priest River.
