The Space City Collision Six 6 Ft and Under

The Prep Hoops Circuit has really been a showcase for guards to display their game. On a circuit where there are not a lot of big men, guards have shown the full range of their abilities. Small guards have really gotten a chance to show what they can do. Guards like [player_tooltip player_id="1151156" first="Raven" last="Ortiz"] have scored big, run their teams well, and entertained the fans. There were six guards at the Space City Collision who fit the same bill. These six guards six who barely touch six feet were some of the best playing during the weekend in Houston. [player_tooltip player_id="1051643" first="Javonte" last="Howard"] | 5’9" (2022) | Central Louisiana (pictured above) The Central Louisiana guard spent the weekend in Houston showing onlookers that he can get buckets and make others better. Howard displayed his ability to score at all three levels with a series of lefty jumpers from the mid-range, behind the arc, and at the rack. The open floor was where he did a heavy load of damage. Outside of [player_tooltip player_id="1056403" first="Kentrelle" last="Royston"], there was not a guard faster than Howard changing ends. Javonte is as dangerous as any guard regardless of height. He left a lasting impression in Houston. [player_tooltip player_id="1206647" first="Damien" last="Knighten"] | 6’0" (2022) | LA Broncos While he is listed at six feet, Knighten is probably a smidge under that. The LA Broncos guard did his fair share of punishing guards he played against at Space City. Knighten hounded guards on defense in the pressure the Broncos used. His hands were quick and his reflexes were sharp. He moves his feet really well on defense. When he got a steal or pass going towards the hoop, he finished it through contact or made them pay at the charity stripe. Knighten was one of the better two way guards who played during the Space City Collision. He stripped other guards to help his team get into transition and dove on floor for balls. Jackson has a good stroke and definitely can hurt a team with his jumper. David Lewis | 5’9" (2022) | The Disciples <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/05/David-Lewis.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1195843" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/05/David-Lewis-300x300.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="300" /></a> Lewis was flat out one of the top five guards that I saw during the Space City Collision. His ability to get to his spots on the basketball floor was really next level stuff. He was a right-hander who made a living driving left whether it was in transition or in the half court set. His size is what allowed Lewis to get shots off at times at the rim. Lewis is acrobatic and while he likes to go left, he can finish left as well. He is great in the open floor or the halfcourt. He might be short in statue but his game is as big as it comes. He is a point guard to watch going forward. Jalen Collins | 5’9" (2022) | North Houston Bandits <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/05/Jalen-Collins.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1195965" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/05/Jalen-Collins-300x180.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="180" /></a> Collins is a pretty quick and elusive guard who also happened to be one of the better jump shooters in Houston. Collins used the bounce to create separation from his defenders. Once he gained that separation, his jumper was pure from the mid-range and behind the arc. Collins played off Royston’s or other guards and found space to spot up and nail shots. With his size, his mechanics have to be on point religiously when shooting. Collins proved in Houston that one of the better shooters during the weekend was only 5’9". [player_tooltip player_id="970135" first="LeTavian" last="Crockett"] | 5’10" (2023) | Louisiana Fire The Louisiana Fire sophomore displayed positive flashes in his game at the Space City Collision. He was not a guard who was initimidated playing against older players and displayed plenty of confidence. What he did in Houston was place place guards on skates and dropped bombs over their head. Crockett was good from three. When defenders tried to recover to defend him, that is when he hurt them by driving by. He got to the rim easliy also and finished without issue. Crockett has a good skill set and had it on display in Houston. These six guards were very good all weekend and there game showed that they can play against anyone. During the summer grassroots season, look for these six to continue their stellar play. Hopefully this month with their high school team will not derail the moment they gathered leaving the Space City Collision.

Letavian Crockett Letavian Crockett 6'1" | CG St. Amant | 2023 State LA | 5’10" (2023) | Louisiana Fire
