College Commitment: Nathan Meithof (2021 McNary)
It’s been quite the journey for Nathan Meithof Nathan Meithof 6'5" | SG McNary | 2021 State OR this past year. It definitely had its twists and turns but the rangy 6-foot-5, 175-pound swingman is back at home and ready to compete his senior season at McNary. Meithof will also be doing so with his college commitment done having announced that he’ll be playing next year at Westmont College in California.
“It just felt like the right fit,” Meithof said. “It’s a great environment with hard workers and people I can learn from. The coaches and players were really welcoming and cool with me. I liked the coaching staff a lot and that I will have a big impact coming in working for a good spot on the team.”
Meithof visited campus about a week ago on a trip to Southern California, where he also visited Menlo College, which had also offered. It allowed him to compare and contrast and in the end, Westmont won out. Both programs initially saw him when he played with R.O.N. Institute last summer and fall, an experience that Meithof is thankful for.
“Just being able to go up against better competition every day made me a lot better and being on a schedule with no distructions but just basketball, weights, sleep and repeat was the biggest difference,” Meithof said. “I got two times better by going out there I thank coach Myles and the whole staff over there for that aspect as well as the players.”
Meithof is back home now and ready to hit the court again with his McNary teammates. With the pressure of where he’ll be playing college ball off his shoulders, he’s set to shine. He’s the top returning scorer in 6A from last season (22.1 ppg) as well as one of the top returning rebounders (8.4 rpg) and there’s no question he’ll be one of the most unstoppable offensive forces to contend with for opponents.
“I just want to have fun and show everyone what I can do as a player,” Meithof said.
McNary opens the season Saturday against West Albany. Meithof currently ranks as the #5 player in the updated PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
