The event featured multiple AAU teams from all three of the shoe sponsored leagues where teams got to matchup against each other. Below is the first part of my takeaways from the games that took place on Saturday.
Jaden Mustaf Is Going To Be A Problem
Mustaf was dominant for New World and showed why he is one of the top prospects in the local 2024 class. Standing at 6’4, he was one of the more explosive players I saw in the 2024 class this past weekend. Mustaf is a dominant two way combo guard that is going to cause a lot of issues for teams this summer and in coming years in the WCAC while he suits up at DeMatha.
Brant Byers Brant Byers 6'8" | PF Newman School | 2024 New E Has High Major Upside
It was my first time seeing Byers and I am certainly glad I was finally able to get my eyes on him. Standing at 6’8, there is a lot of upside for Byers who has great length. He is a very good shooter who can stretch himself a few inches past the three point line and has some very soft touch on his shot. When he is not shooting the ball, he showed he can dribble and attack the basket. Defensively, look for him to continue to alter shots as he already is playing good defense without fouling. Byers has already received an offer from Maryland.
15U Team Takeover and Team Thrill Played Game Of The Day
It is always going to be a big time game when two of the top shoe sponsored teams from the area go up against each other and that is exactly what we got this past Saturday. Takeover squeaked out a three point victory against as it was a battle all the way until the end. The future for both of these programs are very bright as these are two talented teams. Some standouts from this game were Patrick Ngongba, Caleb Williams Caleb Williams 6'7" | SF Sidwell Friends | 2024 State #93 Nation MD , Daquan Davis Daquan Davis 6'1" | PG Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #119 Nation GA and Chance Mallory.
Blue Cain Blue Cain 6'4" | SG IMG Academy | 2023 State #102 Nation FL Puts On A Show
Cain put on an absolute show for BMaze Elite helping them beat an impressive Team Takeover team in the 16U age group. The 6’4 shooting guard is currently the 6th ranked prospect in the state of Tennessee. Cain has tremendous feel for the game and can really get by defenders off the dribble. He is skilled with the basketball in his hands and showed that he can score the ball in a variety of ways. No question in my mind that Cain is a high major prospect at the college level.
Darren Harris Near The Top In Virginia
There are simply not a lot of better prospects that I have seen in the state of Virginia from the 2024 class than Darren Harris. Harris started to become a name for a lot of people this past January at the NIBC Invitational and has continued to make strides on the court. Harris is an elite shooter that has deep range but also showed this weekend he can finish above the rim. The 6’4 wing is going to be an elite prospect by the time he graduates high school.
