The 2A championship was an instant classic as St. Maries was able to finally achieve their goal of winning a state championship after they defeated Ambrose in the closing seconds. The 2A title will be tough battle in years to come as well and the high level of play throughout all games in the tournament was truly impressive. Tristan Gentry-Nelson Tristan Gentry-Nelson 6'5" | C St. Maries | 2022 State ID , St. Maries: Gentry left it all on the court during the tournament weekend. Tristan averaged 14 points per game throughout the tournament along with 9 rebounds per game. Gentry topped all of these performances off with knocking down the clinching free throws in the closing seconds to defeat Ambrose and bring a state title to St. Maries. Gentry showed his ability to score at all levels including a lot of finishes through contact at the rim. Tristan will be a great player at the next level.
Jordan Lenz Jordan Lenz 6'0" | PG North Fremont | 2022 State ID , North Fremont: North Fremont did not achieve their goals of winning the state tournament, but they put together a quality weekend and showed lots of heart across the tournament. Lenz was a stand out for North Fremont and he had a great shooting weekend where he continually got hot and found ways to help his team through his shooting ability. Lenz also made some great passes on the offensive end and put his teammates in positions to score during all of their games. Lenz had a great season and deserves to continue his basketball career at the next level.
Bryler Shurtliff Bryler Shurtliff 6'1" | SG West Side | 2022 State ID , West Side: Shurtliff made the most of West Side’s appearance at the state tournament and he made a big impact on his teammates. Bryler had a great scoring weekend and willed West Side to a few close games while attempting to make sure they could keep climbing the championship ladder. Unfortunately, Bryler’s efforts were not enough, but he showed the ability to shoot well in clutch moments and he flipped the switch into attack mode when necessary.
