Derek Merwick Derek Merwick 5'10" | PG Elkhorn South | 2021 State NE – 6’0 Guard – Elkhorn South
Merwick was the most underrated floor general in the state this past season. He is a shifty point guard that does a phenomenal job of breaking down his initial defender and then makes the right read based on the help. On top of his passing prowess, he has grown stronger, and his athleticism is incredible for his height. Merwick is also a vocal leader that controls the game. I believe that he will be a better player at the next level. He does everything you need your lead guard to do and has so much potential he hasn’t tapped into yet. There is a point guard with legitimate four-year starter potential still on the market, area coaches should be all over him!
Gunnar Ray – 6-0 Guard – Oakland-Craig
On top of having one of the best names, Ray was quietly one of the best players in Class C2. Why his season didn’t get more attention is puzzling, as he averaged 18.2 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 2.7 SPG on a very solid Oakland-Craig team. On offense, Ray is a downhill driving guard that finishes well in traffic. His shooting could’ve been better this year but he is no doubt a shot-maker. He’s not afraid to shoot and that confidence will benefit him at the next level. He takes pride on the defensive end and was constantly in a defensive stance pestering his opponents. Ray currently holds offers from Midland (NAIA), Hastings (NAIA), and Briar Cliff (NAIA). The rest of the schools in the GPAC should be following suit. Ray is just looking for the best fit for him.
Ryan Larsen Ryan Larsen 6'2" | SG Millard West | 2021 State NE – 6’3 Guard – Millard West
Larsen’s excellent shooting from three has been well documented this season. It was a key factor in Millard West’s run to the state tournament. This season he averaged 13 PPG, shot 43% from three, and 87% from the free-throw line. His game right now revolves around his jump shot, and his lightning-quick release earns him tons of great looks. He’s getting better at using the threat of his jumper to get to the hoop. Larsen currently has interest from Hastings (NAIA), NWU (D3), Midland (NAIA), and Concordia NE (NAIA). He is just looking for a chance to prove he can play at an elite level. Programs are always looking for more shooting and Larsen happens to be excellent in that department. He will be a steal for small schools in the region.
