Continue ReadingThe Michigan state playoffs are complete. All the players fought through a crazy season and put on a tremendous show. The Final 4 in Division 2 was definitely a classic. In the semifinals, Grand Rapids Catholic Central defeated Ferndale squad by a score of 81-55. On the other side of the bracket, Battle Creek Pennfield defeated Bridgeport 62-52. Grand Rapids Catholic Central won 77-54 in the championship over Battle Creek Pennfield.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Remaureon Arthur (2021, PG, Bridgeport)
Arthur kept his team within striking range in the semis. He had a team high 18 points.
Durral Brooks Durral Brooks 6'2" | PG Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI (2024, PG, Grand Rapids Catholic Central)
Brooks’ game isn’t about the numbers, but more about the many ways in which he contributes. In the semis, his 7 assists were critical. In the championship game he had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Jorden Brooks Jorden Brooks 6'3" | SF Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2022 State MI (2022, SF, Grand Rapids Catholic Central)
Brooks averaged 15 points per game through the Final 4. He also added 7 rebounds in the title game.
Luke Davis (2022, CG, Battle Creek Pennfield)
Davis really put his name on the map in the state playoffs. He averaged 21 points per game in Final 4 action. He added 4 assists in the championship effort.
Jason Drake Jason Drake 6'2" | CG Ferndale | 2022 State MI (2022, SG, Ferndale)
Drake was tremendous throughout the playoffs, willing his team to wins. He tried once again in the round of 4, dropping in a cool 27 points.
Jack Karasinski Jack Karasinski 6'5" | SF Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2022 State MI (2022, SF, Grand Rapids Catholic Central)
Karasinski is an elite talent off the wing and that showed in the Final 4. He averaged 18.5 points per game and 5 rebounds per game in the 2 contests.
Ryne Petersen Ryne Petersen 6'1" | CG Battle Creek Pennifield | 2021 State MI (2021, CG, Battle Creek Pennfield)
Petersen rounded out a great high school career in the right way. In the semifinals, he had 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. In the finals, he added 11 points.
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Kaden Brown Kaden Brown 5'10" | PG Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2023 State MI (2023, PG, Grand Rapids Catholic Central)
Kaden Brown Kaden Brown 5'10" | PG Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2023 State MI sent the entire state a loud message in the Final 4. He showed everyone that when discussing elite perimeter talent in the class of 2023, his name has to be mentioned. Brown was impossible to slow offensively, scoring in a variety of ways. His quick first step allowed him to create and he was dynamic using that space. Brown had a sizzling 20 points in semifinal action. He then went off and topped that with a 25 point outburst in the championship game. Not to mention, Brown added 5 rebounds in the title game.
