of Layton High School. In 22 games Ethan was able to surpass 550 points this season. Ethan played in one of the best basketball Regions in the state and he was still able to get those type of numbers. Ethan was able to average 25 PPG and he was also able to average 12 RPG game as well.
Ethan garnered a lot of attention from coaches across the country but he decided to stay home and create his own path by signing with Utah Valley University. His commitment was a surprise to many but he will be a catch for the Wolverines especially nabbing an in-state player away from some of the other colleges in the state.
Ethan has a game that has developed over time as he has been able to expand his shooting to go along with his dominat play inside. Ethan is probably one of the best rim running bigs in the state as he knows when to get out and run. He quickly gets in-front of the pack and he is able to position himself early. Ethan has turned into a high percentage shooter from the 15 feet and having him step outside at the three-point line has been something he has been working on. Ethan has just had a major growth in maturity that has really helped him have that killer mentality.
Ethan only had one game this year where he didn’t score in double-figures and that game his team was in total control as they rolled to a 20 point game were he sat out most of the game. He was able to tally five 30+ point games this season which allowed him to score 1,416 points in his high school career. Ethan also had 653 rebounds which is impressive. He had 14 double-doubles this year alone and he even had a 30 & 20 game.
This summer when things opened up a bit Ethan was in Las Vegas playing with The Utah Prospects and they played against The Las Vegas Knicks and he had a player chirping at him the entire game and ethan caught him on a fast break and totally threw it down on his head and it sent the small crown and on-lookers in a frenzy. This is when Ethan started to take things to the next level as he was able to carry that type of energy back to his high school and leading and willing his team to wins.
Earlier this year his team was struggling as they had a tough pre-season schedule, he was able to take his game to another level and not only score points to help his team get back on track, but he was able to make those around him better.
Utah Valley University is getting a player that can go down on the blocks and finish with both hands as he has a great feel for defenders and what they will give up. He spaces the floor well and he crashes the glass and with his long wingspan he is able to not only haul rebounds in he is also able to finish against physicality. With time Ethan will continue to develop his outside. Ethan is also underrated with his quickness and first step. He is also able to guard in the perimeter on switches as well.
Congratulations to Ethan as he is this years PH Utah Mr. Basketball for the 2020-2021 season.
