Continue ReadingThe GEICO Nationals might have a new venue as they move from New York to Fort Myers, Florida, but one thing remains the same and that is Wasatch Academy is back on the main stage. Utah has been blessed to have such a high level program in the state that can represent our state. Wasatch Academy has company this year from Utah as well, but it’s not on the boys side it’s on the girls side. Local public school Fremont High School accepts it’s invite to the National Tournament as well.
Fremont Lady Silverwolves
The Fremont Silverwolves will put their 26-0 record on the line.Fremont is 1 of 4 teams playing in this tournament and they enter as underdogs as they are ranked 15th in the country. the other 3 girls programs are ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Fremont had a stellar season as they nearly scored 100 points once this year. They have had two games that were won by 9 and 10 points this year as most of their games were blowouts. Fremont is led by 6’4 Emma Calvert who is ranked 74th in the country and 6th at her position. She is putting up 17 PPG. She is a 4-star prospect that is headed to BYU. 6’3 Timea Gardnier is a 5-star prospect that is ranked 4th in the country. The Class of 2022 player is being recruited by Oregon State, Stanford and UCLA. 6’5 Class of 2023 Maggie Mendelsen is also one of the best players in the country as she is ranked 21st in her class. As, you can see Fremont is not going into this tournament with some players that are not high level.
Wasatch Academy
With 24 games under their belt, this is a Wasatch Academy team that is battle tested. They earned a #5 seed in the tournament with an 18-6 record. They have an impressive roster that can hang with anyone.
6’2 PG Richard Isaacs (2022) He is being recruited by the likes of Kansas and many other Blue Blood schools.
6’2 PG Nolan Hickman Nolan Hickman 6'2" | PG Eastside Catholic | 2021 #29 Nation UT (2021) Who will be heading to Kentucky next season.
6’7 F Fouseeyni Traore (2021) The BYU bound big is a force down low and he protects the rim.
6’6 SF Casey Jones Casey Jones 6'6" | SF Wasatch Academy | 2021 State UT (2021) will be heading to Eastern Washington as he is athletic and he can be used all over the floor.
6’5 G Rody Gayle (2022) The electric wing player will be heading to Ohio State and he gives the tigers much needed help on the wings.
6’6 F Robbie Ambrester (2021) The big body bruiser and high flyer will make his way to Houston University next year.
Their wins are impressive and their losses are against some high profile teams that will all accompany them in the tournament. This team is deep and has the players to make a deep run.
