The updated 2023 rankings are finally here. Over 50 names were added, bringing the total number to 145. Even with the influx of players, the top spot remained unchanged in Dajuan Wagner Jr Dajuan Wagner Jr 6'4" | PG Camden | 2023 State #1 Nation NJ .
The Camden guard is an advanced scorer who can score at ease at all three levels. Wagner Jr. has a pure shooting stroke and is unafraid of finishing through contact. His poise and leadership on the floor are not talked about enough as he never seems to get rattled on the floor.
Simeon Wilcher Simeon Wilcher 6'4" | PG Roselle Catholic | 2023 State #17 Nation NJ and Mackenzie Mgbako Mackenzie Mgbako 6'8" | SF Roselle Catholic | 2023 State #5 Nation NJ flipped spots in a battle that will go down to the final rankings. The former ran the show for a talented Roselle Catholic team, showing his floor vision and ability to set up his teammates. Wilcher’s length and athleticism allows him to defend both guard spots and can score in a variety of ways.
Mgbako missed most of the season due to injury, but his talent is extremely high. The 6’7 wing is comfortable handling the ball on the perimeter as he can beat his defender off the bounce or drain triples from behind the arc. Mgbako is a strong rebounder and showed off his passing ability with five assists in the season opener.
Akil Watson Akil Watson 6'7" | SF Roselle Catholic | 2023 State #105 Nation NJ maintains the fourth spot after establishing himself as one of the top forwards in North Jersey. The Don Boso Prep forward attacks the basket hard where he uses his size and athleticism to finish around the rim. Watson can also knock down jumpers from distance and is an underrated passer.
Aaron Bradshaw Aaron Bradshaw 7'0" | PF Camden | 2023 State #10 Nation NJ checks in at number five on the list, but he might have the highest ceiling of any player in the class. The 7-footer has a good face-up game and uses his size to shoot over smaller defenders. Bradshaw’s length makes him one of the top shot-blockers in the class and has a nice touch around the basket.
Aaron Clark Aaron Clark 6'6" | SG Brewster Academy | 2023 State #135 Nation NLG and Jayden Lemond Jayden Lemond 6'3" | PG Blair Academy | 2023 State #183 Nation NJ are the highest newcomers in the class as they are sixth and seventh, respectively. Both players are talented ball-handlers who play with good floor vision. They play for rival schools in the Prep Division as St. Benedict’s and Blair Academy fight for supremacy.
Point guard is the most common position in the rankings with 61 total prospects, followed by shooting guard with 33. The small forward position has only 21 players, but three of them reside in the top 10 and six in the top 21. Scotty Middleton Scotty Middleton 6'7" | SF Sunrise Christian | 2023 #50 Nation KS is one of those wings in the top 10 as he made one of the biggest jumps in the rankings.
