Grace dominates Butte County
Grace completed a comeback from the losers bracket in the district tournament. After an unexpected earlier loss against Butte County, Grace blew out the Pirates to win the district championship.
Gage Stoddard Gage Stoddard 5'11" | PG Grace | 2021 State ID led the Grizzlies with 18 points and Trey Draper added 15 as Grace took control with a 27-point second quarter. It was a dominant quarter that did not leave any doubt. Stoddard as started to take over for the Grizzlies. He’s showcasing his ability as an all-around player. Grace will go as far as Stoddard can take them.
Grace will play Victory Charter, the No. 2 seed from District 3, on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Vallivue HS in the first round of the state tournament.
North Gem get their Revenge
North Gem clinched the district title, paying Mackay back for two years of blowout losses in the district championship. The team came out with an opportunity to finally take down Mackay and in the second quarter they took their gave to another level.
North Gem trailed by six after the first, but held Mackay to nine points in the second to take the lead and put the game away with a 25-point fourth frame. They showcased their play of making the extra pass to get open shots. North Gem is a dangerous foe in the State Tournament.
Seniors Logan Corta Logan Corta 6'1" | SG North Gem | 2021 State ID and James Bodily James Bodily 6'2" | SF North Gem | 2021 State ID carried the Cowboys with 24 and 21 points, respectively, with their classmate Garrett Leavitt Garrett Leavitt 6'1" | SF North Gem | 2021 State ID pitching in 10.The senior leadership of the Cowboys make them a lethal threat, playing team basketball. Corta and Bodily are both versatile scorers that feed off of each other. This mini-competition between the two make North Gem lethal offensively.
North Gem plays Dietrich on Wednesday in the first round of the state tournament. That game will be 5 p.m. at Caldwell High School.
