CBG Showcase Finale Standouts (Part 1)
In this article:
The Commonwealth Basketball Group has been busy this fall and winter putting on different events for teams that can’t play due to the coronavirus pandemic. It all started with the CBG Fall Series, and led into the Winter Series and multiple Showcase days as well as partnering with Team Loaded for the Coaches For a Cure event. The final team event of the winter took place on Sunday February 21, with the CBG Showcase Finale, a four game event featuring teams from across VA, MD and WV.
It was a high level event with tons of talent all over the place and very competitive games throughout the day. Below you will find the scores for the games as well as the standouts throughout the day, and you can watch the games from the event on the CBG Live Network.
Game 1: Blue Magic 62 CVA Warriors 31
Game 2: 522 Warriors 77 CBG Wildcats 59
Game 3: MD Justice 62 Peanut City 58
Game 4: Beckley Prep IJN 82 Massanutten 81 (OT)
Dana Woodley Dana Woodley 6'4" | SG John Marshall | 2021 State VA | 6’4” WG | Blue Magic 2021
Woodley has been a staple as one of the top seniors in all of the CBG Series events, and he ended the Finale with a big time showing in a blowout over CVA Warriors where he showed what would make him an immediate impact at the next level. He already has the frame and athleticism that translates to the next level, and he shot the ball well and played good defense both on and off the ball in their vaunting press throughout the day. He finished with 16 points going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and had 5 steals in their win.
Davin Cosby Jr Davin Cosby Jr 6'5" | CG Word of God | 2023 #111 Nation NC | 6’4” WG | Blue Magic 2022
The sharpshooting wing for Blue Magic got things started early with his shooting ability from beyond the arc, and he showed how he’s improved his game over the past year or so as well with a couple of solid plays defensively and some athletic finishes as well. He’s a guy who moves well off the ball and can spot up with deep range and a quick release, and he’s improved his body and athleticism to be able to put it on the deck and get to the rim and finish or make plays for others as well. He finished with 11 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds in the win.
Kenyon Giles Kenyon Giles 5'11" | PG Oscar Smith | 2022 NV | 5’10” PG | Blue Magic 2022

The microwave scorer out of the 757 put on another show for Blue Magic in their win over CVA Warriors, as he continues to dazzle with his electric scoring ability from all over the floor. While he isn’t the biggest guy, Giles is an explosive athlete who is quick off the bounce, can change speeds and stop on a dime and can score from almost anywhere past half court off the bounce. He did it all from making threes out past the NBA range to getting in the lane and hitting floaters en route to a game high 20 points, and he did it on the defensive end too chipping in 3 steals as well.
Dominique Bailey | 6’2” WF | Blue Magic 2024
Bailey is that x-factor kind of guy who may not show up with big numbers in the stat sheet, but he is a gritty glue guy who makes winning plays on both ends and simply makes his team better every time he’s on the floor. Bailey is the guy who will take on the assignment of guarding the other team’s best player, he takes charges and fights for loose balls and he consistently makes the right play on the offensive end as well. Not many young players get it that defense will get you on the floor, but Bailey not only gets it, he embraces and thrives in that role.
Isaac Sumpter | 5’11” CG | CVA Warriors 2022
The Warriors were a little rusty as they hadn’t played a game or had a practice in over 3 weeks, but Sumpter didn’t back down and went right at a talented Blue Magic group as he made shots and made plays for others as well. The 5’11” combo was rattled a little early like most of the team, but he got it together as he showed the ability to touch the paint regularly, score from multiple levels and should be one of the go-to guys for this young group moving forward. He finished with 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field and had 2 steals as well.
Josh Sime Josh Sime 6'8" | PF Western Albemarle | 2023 State VA | 6’8” C | CVA Warriors 2023
Sime is one of the most impressive young prospects in the Charlottesville area, and after dealing with some foul trouble in the first half he showed flashes of what makes him so good moving forward. He’s a strong kid that has a great frame, he’s mobile and athletic and runs the floor hard and he has a budding skill set that’s an inside-out kind of game that will only get better with time. He is physical in the paint and can finish through contact, he protects the rim well and he pursues the basketball and rebounds well on both ends too.
