The Flower Mound Marcus Marauders earned a 51-49 victory over the Plano Wildcats on Tuesday, the Dallas Jesuit Rangers went on the road and got a 58-48 win over the J.J. Pearce Mustangs on Friday, and the iSchool of Lewisville Cougars hosted and defeated the Spring Creek Academy Spartans 61-57 on Saturday.
Here are five standout bigs from this past week’s action:
Zineddine Bedri | 2021 | 6’10 Power Forward | Spring Creek Academy – Bedri was a monster on the glass at both ends vs. iSchool of Lewisville. He elevates and tracks the ball extremely well. The 6-foot-10-inch senior provided his team with several second chance opportunities, securing five offensive rebounds. He had a solid game scoring too, displaying good touch around the rim as well as the ability to put the ball on the floor and score off the dribble. He finished the game with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. This is one of the best unsigned seniors in the state.
Cale Martens Cale Martens 6'7" | C Marcus | 2021 TX | 2021 | 6’7’’ Power Forward | Flower Mound Marcus HS – Martens put on a rebounding clinic when I first saw him in a regular season game a little over a year ago. He is still excellent on the boards, but he seems to have expanded his offensive game as a senior. The Marcus forward can stretch out and hit the three ball from the catch, evidenced by a pair of triples vs. Plano. He also used his strength to back his way into the paint for easy looks from close range and finished well in traffic. Martens accounted for 16 points and eight rebounds on Tuesday.
Connor Moore | 2021 | 6’6’’ Power Forward/Small Forward | Dallas Jesuit – Moore is athletic and mobile enough to play on the wing, but he spent most of his time operating as a post player on Friday. He runs the floor in transition, is comfortable handling the ball in the open court, and is a crafty finisher on the block. Furthermore, The Jesuit senior defends multiple positions and is active on the defensive glass. He had some brilliant finishes at the basket vs. Pearce, hanging in the air and converting from inside with regularity. Moore ended the night with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Walker Timme Walker Timme 6'5" | PF J.J. Pearce | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 6’8’’ Power Forward/Center | J.J. Pearce HS – Timme possesses a thick frame and good strength. He is great at exploiting mismatches and scoring when he has the size advantage down low. The 2021 prospect is physical on the block and isn’t afraid to throw his weight around on the interior. His touch is soft in the paint as well. He was solid on the defensive glass on Friday, displaying good fundamentals as a rebounder while boxing out his opponents.
Matt Reed Matt Reed 6'9" | PF iSchool Lewisville | 2023 State #201 Nation TX | 2023 | 6’9’’ Power Forward | iSchool of Lewisville – Reed does a lot of the dirty work for the Cougars. The sophomore big is a fantastic interior defender who rotates well and protects the rim. He is surrounded by talented guards and wings but does a terrific job of making the most of his touches on offense. Additionally, Reed is a good screen setter, has soft hands, and possesses outstanding footwork in the post. I’m excited to see him continue to develop as his role increases over the next few seasons.
