Continue ReadingAs we updated our new junior class rankings, we added over 40 new names to the list. There were quite a few reasons for the influx of new names, the biggest one being that we extended the rankings from 75 to 125 prospects, but we also had guys transfer in, guys transfer out, new names emerge and as always, we also just flat out forgot some guys which I’m sure we did in this one as well.
Regardless, we will take a look at the new names in our rankings, starting with part three featuring 9 guys we have added from the last rankings.
Reis Jones Reis Jones 6'10" | C Flint Hill | 2022 State VA | 6’6” C | Flint Hill (#66 Overall)
A throwback style big man, Jones is a guy you don’t want to matchup with in the post because he’s going to give you headaches all night long. He’s a big and strong bruiser in the paint who has a great frame that allows him to clear out space in the paint, and he’s a high motor guy who’s all over the glass and rebounds well in and out of his area. He’s a tough nosed guy who can use his physicality to create space and score it over either shoulder, and he still has plenty of room to get better moving forward.
Greg Williams Greg Williams 6'4" | SF VA Academy | 2022 State VA | 6’4” SF | VA Academy (#67 Overall)
Williams is the type of guy you love as a glue guy, as he doesn’t need a ton of plays ran for him or a ton of shots to be successful and help his team win. He’s a long and athletic forward that plays with a high motor, he can guard multiple positions and he rebounds exceptionally well for his size on both ends. He’s a guy who thrives in uptempo systems where he can play fast and use his athleticism to make plays at the rim on both ends.
Travon Grey Travon Grey 6'4" | SF Peninsula Catholic | 2022 State VA | 6’4” SF | Peninsula Catholic (#68 Overall)
Grey is similar to Williams in the way that he is an athletic and high motor forward that makes an impact in a number of ways on both ends. He’s a guy with a great frame and great strength that can bully smaller wings, he is a versatile defender who can guard multiple positions and he’s an athletic finisher above the rim in transition. He has good tools including the ability to make shots when he’s open and the ability to put it on the deck and get to the rim at will.
Cade McCullough Cade McCullough 6'7" | PF West Point | 2022 State VA | 6’7” PF | West Point (#69 Overall)
McCullough is a guy who we may have ranked too low when it’s all said and done as he has tons of tools and is a walking mismatch at his size. The 6’7” forward is the typical stretch four as he can shoot it from deep at a high clip and he’s capable of attacking closeouts and is a good passer on the perimeter as well. He’s on a West Point team that’s on the verge of being one of the top teams in their classification and coaches will see that they have a lot of talent here soon.
Ryan Blakey Ryan Blakey 5'8" | PG Fairfax Christian | 2022 State VA | 5’9” PG | Fairfax Christian (#73 Overall)
Blakey is a big time addition to an already talented Fairfax Christian team after he was a standout at Theodor Roosevelt over the past few years. A lightning quick guard who sets the tone on both ends, Blakey is a guy who sees the game in slow motion and is quick enough to make his opponent look foolish on both ends. He has quick hands and moves his feet well, he’s super shifty off the bounce, he makes others better and he’s a crafty scorer from multiple levels.
Dallas Kendall Dallas Kendall 6'7" | PF Menchville | 2022 State VA | 6’7” PF | Menchville (#75 Overall)
Kendall is an intriguing prospect who once it clicks, could shoot up this list and could become a very good player in the long run. He looks the part with long arms and a good frame that should fill out, he can rebound and protect the rim and he is mobile and able to run the floor and play in transition. He has good touch and plays well in spurts, but he has so much potential moving forward.
Reggie Robertson Reggie Robertson 5'8" | PG John Marshall | 2022 State VA | 5’8” PG | John Marshall (#81 Overall)
Robertson is a kid you have to love, as he isn’t the biggest guy but he’s one of the toughest kids every time he steps on the floor and makes winning plays for his team on both ends. He plays with terrific energy and really guards the basketball, he’s a terrific shooter from deep and he is shifty and strong with the ball off the bounce. He’s a good athlete and he brings a competitive chip and edge to his team and makes positive plays regularly.
Tyler Murray Tyler Murray 6'2" | PG Veritas | 2022 State VA | 6’2” PG | Veritas (#95 Overall)
Murray is one of the better guards in the 757 that no one really knows about, as he has quietly helped Veritas become a tough team to matchup with. The 6’2” guard has good size and is a smooth athlete, he gets to his spots easily and can score it from all three levels. At times he struggles with trying to do too much but he’s very talented and can hang with pretty much anyone put in front of him.
Owen Gray Owen Gray 6'10" | C Steward | 2024 State VA | 6’6” PF | Steward School (#98 Overall)
Gray is a guy who will be a breakout player in the Richmond area as he takes over for Efton Reid who moved on to IMG Academy and now Gray steps in to show what he can do. An athletic forward who can play inside-out, he has a ton of potential as he can play in an uptempo system and can switch and guard guys on the perimeter as well. He has good touch out to 15 feet, he’s an athletic finisher around the rim and is a good rim protector and rim runner as well.
