#NEXTSoutheastKickoff | Class of 2028 (Pool A) Standouts Pt. 3

Cartersville, Ga. — The inaugural Prep Hoops Next Southeast Kick-Off provided a platform for nearly 50 teams and more than 500 student-athletes in the greater Atlanta suburbs this past weekend. Programs from across the region, and beyond, joined in for an action-packed youth hoops event. Joshua Huggins | Nashville, TN | Class of 2028

Huggins looked quite comfortable in his role as both an immovable object and an unstoppable force for N.Y.B.A. (TN) Elite on this particular weekend. The 5-foot-10 post prospect was a double-double machine and easily established himself as one of the most productive frontcourt players in the fifth-grade division at the Prep Hoops Next Southeast Kick-Off. An important trait for a young big man, Huggins exhibited a reliable set of hands, securing entry passes and snatching rebounds in the lane. An intimidating presence at this stage, the Tennessee native will need to continue developing his footwork and frame to keep his dominant streak going.

Davonta ‘DJ’ Lindsey, Jr. | Charlotte, NC | Class of 2028

An excellent athlete, the 5-foot-4 perimeter prospect brought enormous versatility to the hardwood for Team CP3 (NC) Basketball Academy at the Prep Hoops Next Southeast Kick-Off. Lindsey can transition the floor in a hurry and showed superb instincts as a ball-hawking defender in pressure situations. He demonstrated the ability to finish in the open court and the southpaw also displayed promise with his shooting touch. Consistency will be key but Lindsey is already a major contributor for his club and has a great foundation on which to continue elevating his game for the remainder of the grassroots circuit season.

Mahki Mahorn | Versailles, KY | Class of 2028

His great-uncle, former Detroit Piston great and NBA champion Rick Mahorn, might be the most famous basketball player in the family but the younger Mahorn already has many folks in the state of Kentucky excited about his future on the court. Similar to most fifth-graders, the 5-foot-4 perimeter prospect is only scratching the surface of his potential, but had several impressive flashes during the Prep Hoops Next Southeast Kick-Off. A competitor with a strong build for his age, Mahorn appeared capable of scoring from the wing, but also had success attacking the rim and converting scoring opportunities in the lane.

Jahmar Maurice | Woodstock, GA | Class of 2028

Maurice was a bright spot for his team from start to close at the Prep Hoops Next Southeast Kick-Off. A double-digit scorer in three of his team’s four games, the talented prospect was among the upper echelon of athletes at the tournament when it came to the fifth-grade division. The wiry forward was active on both ends of the floor, attacking the glass, and finding ways to consistently get to the basket with the ball in his hands. At his best in transition, the 5-foot-5 wing showcased his ability to complete rim-to-rim finishes, and will undoubtedly become an even more difficult match-up in halfcourt settings as he continues to polish his all-around skills.

Brayden Miles | Burlington, NC | Class of 2028

The 5-foot-6 forward had several very impressive moments for Team CP3 (NC) Basketball Academy at the Prep Hoops Next Southeast Kick-Off. A versatile prospect and the owner of a powerful frame, Miles absorbed contact and finished in the paint, while also drawing fouls at a high rate. He was a particularly effective offensive rebounder and he knows what to do with the ball in his hands near the basket. As his game continues to expand outward and he learns how to capitalize on the mismatches his physical tools afford him, Miles should continue to have a tremendous impact on the action at this level.
