Though many teams are playing outside of their conferences and far away from their hometowns, many players have proven that they can play against anyone and anywhere on any given night. The majority of teams are having to scramble to fill their schedules which has led to some unique matchups and some great basketball that we have not seen in previous years. Continue reading for a rundown of a couple of games across the state.
Vallivue vs. Preston: In a great game between potential 4A state tournament foes, Vallivue was able to sneak out with a win on their home court versus a tough Preston team. The game was back and forth the entire way until Jacob Martinez Jacob Martinez 6'0" | PG Vallivue | 2022 State ID knocked down a three for the final separation to go along with his 30 points overall. The Falcons also were able to get a lot of help scoring from Gavin Weisweaver who had 19 points and a barrage of three’s in the second half to propel Vallivue to victory.
Middleton vs. Fruitland: Another great matchup between non-conference foes was played with the Middleton Vikings and the Fruitland Grizzlies battling for the most dominant performance by their bigs. The Vikings were able to come away with a hard-fought win after a back and forth game, and they were led by Tyler Medaris Tyler Medaris 6'7" | PF Middleton | 2022 State ID contributing 15 points, and Casey Wright adding 14. Fruitland played hard and had their chances during the game but ultimately could not hold on for the long run. Hyrum Lindsey Hyrum Lindsey 6'4" | PF Fruitland | 2021 State ID gave the Grizzlies a much-needed 17 points and Nolan Bower Nolan Bower 6'8" | C Fruitland | 2022 State ID contributed 16 points on an excellent shooting night.
Coeur d’ Alene vs. Thunder Ridge: This game featured a great matchup between northern Idaho and eastern Idaho 5A teams. Thunder Ridge was able to advance to 7-1 on the season as they were led by Lloyer Driggs chipping in 28 points, just one night after hitting a game winner and dropping 29 points. Coeur d’ Alene fought hard but couldn’t overcome an early deficit in this tough battle. The Vikings were led by Cameron Cope scoring 26 in a losing effort.
