The event which has a 3 game guarantee, provides an excellent opportunity for players to compete, as well as gain much-needed exposure. In this article, we preview some sleepers to keep an eye on at the event.
Elijah Johnson Elijah Johnson 5'10" | PG Durango | 2022 NV 5’9 PG Purple Reign 2022 (#15PHN 2022) – Johnson could be a sleeper or star. The jitterbug PG has been creating quite a bit of buzz for himself recently. He’s super fast and plays well when operating at high speeds. Johnson’s ability to get consistent paint touches, frees up PR’s dangerous outside shooters.
David Estes 6’6 PF Big Show Ballers 2022 – Looking to see what progress Estes has made in the last few months. Saw the stretch 4 play up in Utah, and it was clear what he was looking to do. Estes wants to face up and shoot the 3. While he hangs his hat on his shooting, his size and length demand that he help BSB down low this weekend in order for them to leave Cedar City with a win.
Malakai Christian Malakai Christian 6'4" | PF Sierra Vista | 2022 State NV 6’4 PF Blue Hoops 2022 (#76PHN 2022) – Christian is a big body banger. He has the ability to be productive playing low post defense as well as scoring around the rim. Saw him play a couple of weeks ago and I was impressed with his motor and energy.
Dawson Dumas Dawson Dumas 6'1" | PG Elko | 2022 State NV 6’1 SG Elko 2022 (#49PHN 2022) – Dumas is part of a trio of Elko juniors. Each of them brings a little something different to the squad. Dumas brings an absolute strap. He is a catch and shoot specialist that spaces the floor, opening up driving lanes and post-up opportunities for his running mates, Klekas and Dahl.
Jackson Williams Jackson Williams 6'2" | SF Faith Lutheran | 2021 State NV 6’2 SF Team Rouge 2021 (#37PHN 2021) (featured image) – I haven’t had the opportunity to watch Williams play much, so I’m extremely excited to see him play. Like many of the TR players, he is a high academic, high IQ player. He’s also one of the top defenders in the state. Williams’ length allows him to defend multiple positions. He finished last season strong on the offensive end, scoring double digits in his last 3 games helping Faith make a run to state.
